It's northeast of Seattle.

“... it blocked SR 530, the landslide cut off Darrington, a town of about 1,350 people located 75 miles northeast of Seattle and within close proximity to Round Mountain, Whitehorse Mountain and White Chuck Mountain. Part of the Stillaguamish River also was blocked.”

Prayers up for these people and their loved ones. And prayers up for the rescuers, as I cannot imagine their anguish as they try to get to those crying for help.

These people were just going about their business and suddenly the mountain fell on them, is that about right? Terrifying.

Makes me wonder if the plates are shifting around up there... remember the last big slide on (I think it was...) Camano Island? And then the bridge that collapsed? It was all in this same vicinity north of Seattle.
Hope all Seattle FReepers have your earthquake preps ready!

The slide is about a square mile in size.
“Like quicksand.”
People are (or at least were) alive in the mud, calling for help. Too dangerous to attempt rescue, other than by hanging rescuers from helicopters.
River backing up behind the flow, continuing to keep the mud saturated. (I don’t want to think about what those who are trapped are experiencing.)
Brief little press conference here:
