WASHINGTON American officials have long considered Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications giant, a security threat, blocking it from business deals in the United States for fear that the company would create back doors in its equipment that could allow the Chinese military or Beijing-backed hackers to steal corporate and government secrets.
But even as the United States made a public case about the dangers of buying from Huawei, classified documents show that the National Security Agency was creating its own back doors directly into Huaweis networks.
The agency pried its way into the servers in Huaweis sealed headquarters in Shenzhen, Chinas industrial heart, according to N.S.A. documents provided by the former contractor Edward J. Snowden. It obtained information about the workings of the giant routers and complex digital switches that Huawei boasts connect a third of the worlds population, and monitored communications of the companys top executives.
One of the goals of the operation, code-named Shotgiant, was to find any links between Huawai and the Peoples Liberation Army, one 2010 document made clear. But the plans went further: to exploit Huawais technology so that when the company sold equipment to other countries including both allies and nations that avoid buying American products the N.S.A. could roam through their computer and telephone networks to consduct surveillance and, if ordered by the president, offensive cyberoperations.

We want to make sure that we know how to exploit these products, it added, to gain access to networks of interest around the world.

Snowden needs a dirt nap
This dovetails into the missing Malaysian Plane.
Freescale, Shane Todd, and Huawei.
Btw, Shane Todd’s Obit listed him as a Verification Engineer with Freescale.
Snowden crossed the line with this one. Revelation that the NSA spies on American citizens is OK. Hacking the computer networks of a foreign nation is a legitimate national security tactic.
Just lost respect for him; he’s a traitor.
But I thought freepers consider him a hero. Along with Putin the leader of communism.
Hummm, this is getting very interesting.
But the NSA is SUPPOSED to be spying on other nations, especially the leftist ones. Blowing the whistle on them for spying on US is legit, that’s none of their affair; this is different.
There’s a whole line of revelations of legitimate NSA actions Snowden has released. This is far from the first.
If he has spilled the beans about our spying on China (which is what the NSA is supposed to do) I wonder what he told his Russian friends in order to stay there.
Yah, I don’t get the Putin love fest. Especially from Freepers. The man is a joke. Saggy pects, pastey skinned poney jockey. I can see why the French would dig him, but not advocates of American exceptionalism. He’s a gangster and continental slum lord.
The Russian people should be on par with Israel and Britan regarding their contribution to human innovation. Instead, the produce only what can be pumped out oh the ground, and second rate weapons.
Whatever it was ... it must have been a doozy of a story.
This thing with Shane Todd is fascinating.
It is hard to find info that shows Shane worked for Freescale EXCEPT his obit.
I dont know if that story is planted but it was posted in 2006. Havent found it in a newspaper.
So why the coverup of where he worked.
Here is the story of his death

Putin doesn’t let himself get pushed around by the gay lobby, and I think that what makes of lot of people on the right like him. I can admire the fact that he is unabashedly pro-Russian. It would be refreshing if we had a president who was pro-American and pro-America. That said, Putin is a tyrant.
We had a chance to have a major ally in Russia. Instead, back in the 90’s, we decided to shove NATO up their rear end, and treat them like a toddler. Now we have to deal with the result of that.
Rummy, I’m a bit behind. What is “freescale”. Thanks.
Freescale owned by The Carlyle Group , Blackstone and others.
20 employees on board the missing plane.
Huawei had two employees not named by the company on the plane.
There is one mystery container on the plane.
There were 5 passengers who had luggage on the plane who did not get on board ..luggage supposedly taken off.
