How much weight should our opposition to abortion carry in our voting decisions?

How much weight should our opposition to abortion carry in our voting decisions?

God calls us to think His thoughts after Him. That means all of His thoughts. That is, we ought to have a sound and biblical view on everything the Bible touches on. Where it touches on political issues, we are called, again to have sound biblical views. We need to think biblically about what is just war and what is not. We need to think faithfully about taxation, and the size and scope of government. We need to think through what obligation, if any the state has to protect property, to protect our lives.

That said, there are precious few things that frustrate me more about the evangelical right than its utter foolishness with respect to proportion politically. We bundle together this issue and that, everything from tax rates to school vouchers to flag burning to abortion, and call it “family values.” There is a right and a wrong answer on all these issues. But abortion is not like any of the others. It stands out all on its own. In a hundred years, the Christian church will not hang its head in shame that it did so little to pass a Constitutional Amendment against the burning of the flag. In a hundred years, no elderly Christian will be looked at with suspicion by the younger generation because they didn’t do more to lower the tax rate. In a hundred years, if God should be so gracious, we will be looked upon as that godless generation of the church that watched tens of millions of babies go to their deaths. Indeed, we’ll be remembered as those “Christians” who elected men to office who believed that the state ought to protect the rights of some mothers to murder their babies.

It is unfair to draw too tight a comparison between abortion in America and the Holocaust in Nazi Germany. There are significant differences. First, the Holocaust was carried out, by and large, in secret. The rank and file Germans had no idea what was going on. We, on the other hand, every last one of us, woke up today knowing that four thousand babies would die today. We, on the other hand, have four thousand mothers, every day, who knowingly do this. We, on the other hand, have four thousand fathers, boyfriends and husbands who every day encourage this. The Holocaust lasted roughly ten years, and the Nazi’s killed roughly six million people. We, on the other hand, have been at this for 35 years, and have killed more than fifty million babies. It is an unfair comparison, unfair to the Nazis. We are far worse monsters.

How much weight should our opposition carry? I have purposed in my heart that I would never vote for a man for any office that is not committed to using every power at his disposal to protect and defend every unborn child. Never. Ever. If every Christian would simply make that simple pledge, then we would win this battle. As it stands, at best we vote for candidates who might nominate or support judicial candidates who might vote for this small impediment or that to abortion on demand. At worst, we vote for the guy with the R by his name. We need to get rid of our strategies, and get on our knees in repentance. We need to stop negotiating with candidates over the bodies of dead babies.

That was just a response to someone saying Pro-Life Politicians don’t do well, obviously, Rand won Ky. That’s all, I’m not really talking about the same-sex marriage issue. Hopefully, debates would clear things up and seeing his voting record on other issues. Yes, I have heard what he has been saying lately.

Rand Paul has taken a position against social conservatism and for gay marriage, and for changing the party platform.

Question:
Right. But it seems what they’re saying is that the Republican Party should stay out of issues like gay marriage.

Rand Paul:
I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues. The Republican Party is not going to give up on having quite a few people who do believe in traditional marriage. But the Republican Party also has to find a place for young people and others who don’t want to be festooned by those issues.

This thread is about abortion and the issue was whether pro-life politicians could win.

Respectfully, Rand Paul may well be saying let the States or other local government, local voters decide on Same Sex Marriage, in fact, he could be saying that about Social Issues in general. That’s the only reason I said this thread is not about that in particular because it’s a bit of an argument that one would have to go in depth about.

Look, you posted to me about Rand Paul, and I responded to you, after your second Rand Paul post.

Rand has come out against social conservatism though, and taking a gay marriage stance.

I question his sincerity. When a politician claims to believe something deeply, but pursues an agenda that makes his claimed goal impossible, then something doesn’t add up.

I’m not saying Rand Paul is my choice for President, all I am saying is he has sponsored pro-life legislation and was elected Senator of Kentucky. Nothing about other issues because that is a much more in-depth question. I’d vote for Cruz, Walker, Perry and perhaps other personal choices first.

I volunteered as a counselor for a crisis pregnancy center for years. I believe we can turn the whole issue around and have it backfire on the pro abortionist. Many women out there feel such guilt and would love to put some of the blame on others. First understand the girls/women who get abortions

There were three kinds of women who get abortions.

The selfish militant
These women come in with almost a hate for their baby. For them it's all about “me, me, me. My life, my future....These women tend to have multiple abortions. These are hardcore liberals who only care about themselves. The militant knows we hope to change their mind, but almost take pleasure in letting us know they only want the free test. These women are evil and will gladly lead others to evil. It will take an act of God to change them.

The gullible follower
These girls actually believe that abortion is ok otherwise the government would not allow it. They tend to be young and easily lead by the militant, and are convinced pro-lifers are lying to them. Most are uneducated and have no common sense. They very much want to be accepted by people who they think are intelligent. It's as if they can't stand back and see what they are about to do. Their minds have been blinded by the evil one.

The trapped girl
Many girls/women felt they were forced or pushed into the abortion by parents, boyfriends or husbands. These girls don't want to get an abortion, but even more, don't want to lose their boyfriend, husband or be thrown out of their home. Some are abused physically, emotionally, mentally. Many of these girls are very insecure and fear they will be rejected by those who love them or scared they will be thrown into the street. Think about what kind of parent would want to kill their own grandchild, then you'll understand these girls fear. We always try to get the baby's father or parent into the office. Most times they won't come in but cases where the parent or baby's father came in, the baby was not aborted. We have wonderful men who come in to talk with the boyfriend or husband. When big life changing events happen many people overreact and make decisions they later regret.

The last two normally, in time normally regret their decision. These women have higher rates of drug and alcohol abuse and suicide. Many never get the true help they need; forgiveness from God. They suffer silently.

The trapped and gullible follower who do get help normally become our biggest pro-life advocates for the cause. 75% of women who volunteer at the CPCs aborted a baby. (I did not) it's almost a form of repentance to them. Most who come to PATH post abortion therapy healing, become a Christian.

I say this because just like the article said, one day, maybe soon, people are going to look back and ask who is to blame. I think good commercials with the facts would make people to stop and realize what this country has done. Something to think about.

Respectfully nothing, we aren’t here to play fools and deceive ourselves about politicians out to defeat our politics.

Rand isn’t running for Governor, Rand is a Senator voting on federal law, and is running for president, gays in the military, abortion on federal lands, gay marriage in the military and in federal employment and in immigration are not “state” issues, they are issues of bigger and more costly federal government.

Except for the fact that doctors are already licensed. There is a reason we regulate the medical profession. Straw man much?

In that same interview where Paul came out for moving the party left, he also came out against Cruz.

Paul is probably Isolationist for lack of a better term compared to Cruz. So yes, they will have differences.

LOL, you really work at this.

Their big differences so far are on conservatism, social issues, that was what that interview was about.

I am generally not a “one issue” voter, but on abortion I have to draw the line. I would never, knowingly, vote for a pro choice, pro abortion candidate.

I am a hardliner, in that the ONLY exception I believe in, is for the LIFE of the mother. Not “health”, not “injury”, only LIFE.

I will still vote for the right candidate who is pro life with the standard exceptions.

Pretty clever of you Satin to grab a quote that seems to support your pro-abortion statement, when you know well this article had noting to do with individual state rights, because the article is affirming the US Constitution's protection of the right of all humans, to Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness.

you can’t do anything if you don’t have a majority.

We don't do anything when we have the majority either, at least not on the issues that count. Reagan promised he would abolish the Department of Education, he was opposed to abortion and had all three branches to help but it didn't happen, didn't even come up. How about the money to the National Endowment for the Arts, that every Republican promises to defund it, yet they never bring it up when the have control.

Voting for RINOs is the same as voting for any other Tyrant.

We have laws against murder. When would you have those apply? At what age is a human being considered old enough to fall within the protection of our law?
