The real Sam Adams was a vicious anti-Catholic bigot and a failed brewer. He made his living as a corrupt tax collector. The modern beer company has the same sentiments as its namesake.

No charges were filed against Adams because an investigation later showed him to be grossly negligent, not corrupt.
