(CNSNews.com) -The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is calling for a boycott of Guinness and Sam Adams beer to protest their brewers decision to pull their sponsorships of Monday's St. Patricks Day parades in New York and Boston respectively, League president Bill Donohue told CNSNews.com.
Earlier this week, the beer companies announced that they were not sponsoring the parades, which draw up to a million spectators, because organizers would not allow participants with signs identifying them as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) to march.
But Donohue says he is already seeing a backlash.
Ive never seen such a quick, visceral reaction, he told CNSNews.com. I think its due to a couple of reasons. Number one, its an easy issue to understand. Anybody can march in the parade. What you cant do is march under your own banner; in other words, if you have a political cause.
Pro-life Catholics, as I emphasize, are not allowed to march in the parade under their own banner. If you happen to be pro-life, you can march. You can be pro-choice and you can march. You can be gay or straight and you can march. What you cant do is have your own banner.
No more Sam Adams, Guinness or Heineken in this house. Screw ‘em.
How about a big time Catholic Church public and loud condemnation (and excommunication, if they have the nuts to do it) of Peolosi's acceptance of a bloody award from the Planned Predators' abortuary industry.
The real Sam Adams was a vicious anti-Catholic bigot and a failed brewer. He made his living as a corrupt tax collector. The modern beer company has the same sentiments as its namesake.
Gee, about time.
Guinness especially. It’s, um, Irish, right?
Not exactly friendly to Irish people.
Beamish ain't bad...
Done. There’s plenty of good beer in the world to waste one’s time with that nonsense.
The wife and I like the Guinness Black Lager. What is a good substitute?
Count me in.
I can give up Sam Adams easily enough - too hoppy, never liked the taste.
What other Founding Fathers do you despise?
It’s owned by Heineken. I’m going to have to brew my own if this keeps up.
I can’t keep track of all the products and businesses I’m supposed to boycott. Can someone maintain a list here on FR for easy reference?
“When he was employed as a tax collector in Boston, he tended to mismanage the funds. Between 1753 and 1765, a shortage of £8,000 in Adams accounting was discovered. No charges were filed against Adams because an investigation later showed him to be grossly negligent, not corrupt. Being a truly honest man, Adams reimbursed the entire amount which had been lost due to his mismanagement.”

“Thomas Jefferson called Samuel Adams truly the man of the Revolution.

You despise Jefferson? How about George Washington?
The Catholic League has a petition on their website.
I signed it and I am neither Catholic or Irish.
I like Bill, he is a righteous man of principle, my type of person. Bill is 100% right. No person is asked their preference in order to march and in over 100 years no person who is Gay was ever denied marching in the ST. Patrick parade.
It is sick that such an inclusive record is not highlighted by the media. Its clear Irish want a pure parade not a referendum on side issues. Keep it up Bill, I will be drinking Harp from now on.
I’m in on this boycott.
I need to come up with a dark beer to make corned beef with though
It will be easy to drop Sam Adams beer; it is no better than Iron City anyway. But it will hurt to stop drinking Guinness. Never cared for Heineken, too similar to Rolling Rock. We will boycott Guinness; it can be replaced by microbrews, if not by home brewing our own beer.
We cannot boycott what we do not drink anyway, but will avoid even sales for Sam Adams, Guinness, and Heineken.
I can do without all those beers easily. for a good dark beer, try negra modelo a Mexican beer!
