We went into their backyard, why are you shocked they would respond in kind.

A “Real” President would, as one of his first priorities, sit down with Russia, and say, “Look, you have interests, we have interests, let’s draw the line so that we both can get what we want.” That means to a degree, we resist the urge to get involved in certain parts of the world.

One of the problems, maybe the biggest, is that we really don’t have a foreign policy, we make it up as we go along...Nobody can predict what we are going to do.

That’s not good when you are dealing with people as paranoid as the Russians.

True and even more important to have a crystal clear response. Right now the Russians can not believe their luck to have Obama as POTUS for eight freakin years. The next President will have to have a huge Pow Wow to reinstate the US as leader of the Free World.

The US was the leader of the Free World. Once we stop evil, i.e. Russia, Iran, China wins. With weak puny leadership by America, world disorder will grow exponentially. Three more years of weak puny American leadership will allow evil to slink into many nooks and crannies around the world. It will cost those in the direct path of the dark wave heavily. It will cost the rest of us in ways we cannot today imagine. Think of “unintended consequences” and think of “bite us in the arse”.

We generated a lot of capital when we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. Lots of pissing and moaning, but a recognition that we would follow through was important. The reputation that Clinton had built that we would not stand up in broken agreements was a major part of why the various Islamist groups were hitting us big year after year - though even he showed he would at least hit back from time to time.

After we removed Hussein, Gaddafi was more than willing to believe he could be next and turned over the multi-national nuclear and chemicals programs being run in his nation - despite the medias disinterest that was a HUGE thing.

We began to lose it in the aftermath.

With this President?

Unfortunately, that’s 95% of the equation...and Putin at least generally recognizes this. It may become a gangbusters charge to gobble what he can before 2017.

Ukraine sealed their fate when they decided to give up their nukes.

Stupid.

...and conventional arms.

By listening to us, and the guarantees or our representatives.

Are you ready for a constitutional formal declaration of war, drafting 10,000,000, rationing, taxes, and Rosie the Riveter making armaments because Ukraine doesn’t like Russia and wants us to fight for them.

That’s what it took to beat Hitler.

How would you feel if Russia armed Separatists in Mexico bent on returning California to Mexico?

That WOULD be in our back yard, unlike Crimea.

Who is “we”? When did we enter Russia's backyard? Where is Russia's backyard? Is Brighton Beach, NYC part of "Russia's Backyard" as described by Putin just two days ago?

Russia has defended its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula by arguing it has the right to protect Russian-speakers outside its borders.....

You tell me. Sooner of later Russia will be stopped. Question is: Is it easier/cheaper to do it now or will it be easier/cheaper later?

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/19/us-russia-estonia-idUSBREA2I1J620140319

Russia signaled concern on Wednesday at Estonia's treatment of its large ethnic Russian minority, comparing language policy in the Baltic state with what it said was a call in Ukraine to prevent the use of Russian.

On Wednesday in Moscow, the defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, said Russia planned to increase its military projection abroad, including in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

BTTT

I agree, I stand with my friends. The world will rue the day that Obama was the Leader of the Free World for eight years.

Is Russia the Ukraine? Is Crimea the Separatists? Is the Ukraine Mexico? Were Crimeans illegally immigrating into Russia claiming mistreatment? Was there a violent Crimean separatist movement?

“The US was the leader of the Free World.”

We’re now #12 on the economic freedom rankings. We shall lead from behind I suppose. We’re behind Estonia? I’ll have to look up Mauritius.

Yeah, they actually trusted the United States would live up to its word. So much that when we needed help they sent combat troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. Showed them didn’t we? Suckers...

See my tag line. Friends are going to be thin for awhile.

Logical fallacy of the false dilemma. Choices not limited to “ do nothing” and “ all out war”. We could sanction Russia, pressure their trade, freeze their assets, increase our own energy production , send weapons, or any combination of above. Doing nothing invites a repeat in the Baltic or Eastern Ukraine, and gives the Chinese ideas.

Of course with the current Moron in Chief nothing is what happens. But WE don’t have to cheer for that.

No, we The United States, can’t weasel out of it that easily. The Government of the United States negotiated that agreement.
