ROCKUMENTARY: MARCH 22, 1968
THE FIRST RECORDING OF A CLASSIC The Collection: Both Sides NowJoni Mitchell had worked the folk club circuit for years before recording her first disk in 1968 for Warner Brothers. Two of her songs, The Circle Game and Both Sides Now, had been recorded by others, and Mitchell waited several years before putting her own versions on disk.
This is one of the first recordings of Both Sides Now, six months before Judy Collins own hit treatment, and the producers gave it a bubble gum taste. Its not what you think. Whenever I played this for people, they were struck silent by its beauty. It has a calming effect. The video is just plain weird.
