ROCKUMENTARY: MARCH 22, 1968

Where were you? I was a sophomore at a little engineering college in Philadelphia where I supposedly majored in chemistry but actually majored in college radio. As music director, I managed to hear everything that was released, both good and bad. I was in ROTC, which put me outside the college social scene. The hippies, whom I ordinarily admired, were hogging all the sex, something for which I’ve never forgiven them.

So what were you up to?

Cue the Rockumentary theme!

San Remo Golden Strings: “Festival Time”

This band was Motown’s Funk Brothers backed with pickup musicians from the Detroit Symphony.

#10 – Georgie Fame: “The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde”

Arthur Penn’s film ”Bonnie and Clyde” had been one of the first films to graphically depict violence, and it made Warren Beatty a star. This song did not come from the film but was an attempt by a British artist to capitalize on the film’s success.
