KEIZER, Ore. Keizer police arrested a husband and wife on sex abuse charges after investigators learned the couple had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old.
The three were Marion County Search and Rescue volunteers, according to the sheriffs office.

17 year olds can certainly consent to sex. That does not mean they can not also be coerced, forced, intimidated, and/or manipulated into having sex.
Define “manipulated”?
According to feminists, all Male-Female sex is “manipulated.”
In japan kiddie porn is legal and near-smut mags and DVDs are a thriving industry called U-15 (under 15)
“You paint with a rather broad brush - there are oddballs everywhere, and you sound like one.”
Trust me, the Pacific Northwest has a higher per-capita rate of oddballness than anywhere in the nation outside of San Francisco or Venice Beach.
Oregon consistently has the highest or second highest per-capita rate of sex offenders in the nation year after year, easily five times the rates in the lowest reporting states. For a couple of years Washington had higher rape rates than any other state in the union, though thankfully that has dropped over the last decade.
Calling me an oddball by being shocked about these states is akin to calling someone an oddball for being shocked after moving to San Francisco.
They also have some very odd restrictions on what can be shown in their porn, making most American porn illegal.
Coercion, force and (possibly) intimidation to get sex are illegal regardless of age.
And sex outside of marriage was adultry, and sodomy was prosecuted.
As long as it’s a return to All oof the relevant statutes that served to protect society in general and teens in particular thats good.
That is what you meant right?
can we kick a 17 year old out of the house since they are so mature?
if they are old enough for sex they are old enough to get their own place and raise their own family
Works for me.
BTW, sex outside of marriage by a married person is still adultery. It’s just (outside the military) not a crime anymore.
In many states, anyone 16 and older can have sex with anyone else who is age 16 and over.
The crime is committed when an individual is photographed or videotaped having sex when that individual are under 18.
It makes very little sense that a dirty old man can shag a teenager legally, but he has crossed the line if he takes a nude picture of the teen. Don’t get me wrong... they’re both horrible acts. But one is criminal and the other is just fine and dandy.
Messed up.
“Were our ancestors of the 18th and 19th century all perverts and pedophiles?”
Well since you mentioned historical perspective, it would be worthwhile to point out that western societies HISTORICALLY frowned upon marriage to teenagers.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hajnal_line
In the areas of Europe that fostered modern civilization, the average age of marriage for women was 23, and the average age of marriage was 26 for men. Likewise, relations outside of marriage were strongly discouraged. This phenomenon has been called the ‘Western European marriage pattern’, and it’s a hallmark of advanced civilization.
Moral behavior tends to support and further human advancement, if you have trouble identifying with the former it would be advisable to at least aim for the latter. Adults engaging in sexual relationship with high-schoolers is both obviously morally repugnant and functionally disadvantageous.
After all, it's also OREGON!
“can we kick a 17 year old out of the house since they are so mature?”
The kid can move out on their own at 16 in most states, but they have to petition the court to do so.
You can joint the military at 17.
I know that.
Do you have an "interesting historical documentation-oid" for this?
Marriages were legal at 16 and younger in times past. However, your extraordinarily young ages seem a bit extreme.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. What purpose does “volunteer search and rescue rapists” have to do with anything. They may have well said “Elemetary School Graduates.” Of course we all know if they were republicans it would have been “Republican voters, supporters, who donated money to Mitt Romney and shop at Walmart rape 17 year old child.”
[ holy crap. Youre right. The comments are disgraceful. They act as if the victim and victims family are the ones being ridiculous.
They scoff that this 17 yr old girl is called a child and that she should darn well be having sex by now, like it or not! ]
We are so screwed up as a society that we consider a 17 year a precious little child and our culture infantalizes the young adults up to the their 30’s and we baby them even then...
Back in the 1800’s a 17 year old was already married and was working on starting a family and building a homestead.
We keep pushing back adulthood further and further until you won’t be considered an adult until you are 50 years old....
I blame the education system and media, in terms of toughness and grit I would put a 16 year old man on the 1800’s against a 24 year old college child from our era any day of the week.
The reality is mentally the 17 year old girl is still a child because too many people have listened to Dr. Spock’s horrible advise and we don’t expect our children to grow up in this day and age.
Who said anything about marriage? I was talking about the age of consent for sexual relations.
Here’s a table for you from various countries and states over time:

In Southern Oregon and outside the big cities, it’s pretty much normal. Farmers, ranchers, loggers, retired folk, etc.
It’s just the metro areas that are weird.
Oregon also has very liberal gun laws: must-issue CCW, Class III allowed and easy to get, open carry, private sale of guns.
