Member of the Russian Parliament who voted against annexation of Crimea, will be having problems

The official website of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia had announced that it will be putting forward a motion in the Russian State Duma to relieve Ilya Ponomarev of his duties as an MP. Ponomarev became the only lawmaker out of 446 who voted against ratification of the treaty annexing Crimea.

"On April 7th, the faction will introduce a motion before the State Duma to recognize that Ilya Ponomarev had lost the authority of a deputy, because he opposed the interests of the state, blindly obeying the Nazis who want to split the country " – was said in the statement.

In addition to relieving Ponomarev of duties, the LDPR also believes that "the rest of the MPs who did not vote, must be warned of the inadequacy of their political stance."

Ponomarev, a member of the fraction "A Just Russia", had explained the position on his LiveJournal blog: "445 for, 0 abstained, 1 against. Four did not vote… in 1994 Yeltsin's government signed a deal with the government of Ukraine - we abandon territorial claims to the Crimea and Ukraine abandons nuclear weapons. A near-sighted deal; nonetheless, we gave our word. Ukraine has fulfilled her part of the contract, we, apparently, simply lied”.

Apparently a reasonably well-trained Beagle or Black Lab could be a member of the Russian Parliament.

What kind of fool would ever believe any govt’s promises much less (and especially) Russian promises? Russian has been after Persia since Frederick the Great. The Ukraine is a necessary stepping stone. Some things never change.

Just as a part of Ukraine is disappearing from the old map, so too will Ponomarev disappear from politics, Moscow, even a gulag. Siberia buries a lot of things. A friend of mine who survived Potma and the Lake Baikal slaughterhouses told me about that.

Interestingly, the old Soviet apparatchnik named Boris Ponomarev was their Cold War strategist and spearhead against the West. A relative?

The Liberal Democrats are closest to what to one would you call a Russian nationalist faction. The conservatives ruling party the United Russia, there are the Communists and of course the socialist Just Russia.

But on Crimea, the usual divisions among Russians vanished. Its called the “rally round the flag” effect. There was bound to be a dissenter or two. This guy simply committed political suicide. For nearly all Russians... Crimea is the Russian version of the flag, motherhood and apple pie.

Things no one votes against.

Is this like the GOP-E trying to get rid of a TEA Party Republican that got elected to office?
