The American Medical Association is protesting an Obamacare provision it argues will leave doctors with the bill for up to two months of unpaid care.
The provision requires insurers to allow patients with federally-subsidized health insurance plans a 90-day grace period to pay their premiums before canceling the coverage. Insurers are on the hook for the first 30 days of care, if the customer never pays up, but doctors will be stuck without payment for any services between 30 and 90 days, until the coverage is canceled.
The American Medical Association was a strong supporter of Obamacare.
If a patient is being treated for a serious illness, that requires ongoing care, Dr. Ardis Dee Hoven, president of the AMA, said in a press release Wednesday. The physician is having to assume the financial risk for this. Thats the bottom line.
The AMA released new resources Wednesday for its member physicians, offering step-by-step help for minimizing risk, while admitting that the Obamacare rule could pose a significant financial risk for medical practices.
The doctors association spent $22 million lobbying for Obamacare to pass in 2010, the most of any health care organization, and has kept up their spending in the years since while the laws final regulations have been tinkered with.
The rules damaging effect on doctors especially those with private practices exemplifies the split between the AMAs lobbying ambitions and the outlook of the average doctors that do the work.
After Obamacares passage, just 13 percent of American physicians agreed with the AMAs support of the law, according to a survey from physician recruitment firm Jackson & Coker. Surveys have repeatedly found that doctors dont believe the law will let them help patients and make a living.

Why did Perot run against Bush? His company was a huge Medicare computer services provider and Clinton’s health plan would have been a boon. Why did AMA support Obamacare? They own the medical codes used for billing by insurance companies and the government, and stand to make billions on expanded use of those codes.
Unfortunately, this provision hurts the non-supporting drs. as well as the ones who supported him.If only the supporting AMA drs. were hurt, one could sit back and laugh; however, this provision will impact all drs. and ultimately affect patient care for the worse.

Never joined.
AMA... CHOKE on it!
******************************************************************
Amen -— Nothing like seeing collectivists and their cronies choke on their own vomit!
Less than 15% of the AMA are practicing doctors...
All the better. But those who made that mistake need to fix it when the offense becomes glaring - as it did with AMA's support for ObamaCare.
Oh, puleeez-the AMA was one of obamas biggest a$$ kissers in the lead up to passage. They got what they wanted.(or didnt want since they believed the LIAR in chief)
The AMA represents only about 20% of physicians. Most doctors did not support Obamacare.
The American Medical Association is basically a high class union...
The American Medical Association is basically a union. Very few doctors agree with their stance on this issue.
Everyday Unions backed Obamacare too - the rank and file? Not so much. Same with the AMA union...
How is a $200 office visit for $75 sound? I know someone that got that deal last week.
is = does
“The AMA represents only about 20% of physicians. Most doctors did not support Obamacare. “
In that case, where’s the organization and lobby that supports the other 80%?
Thanks grundle.
In that case, wheres the organization and lobby that supports the other 80%?
Unfortunately there is no national organization that represents the other 80% as doctors are too busy and not smart enough to effectively lobby, particularly aginst the AMA who gets most of its funding from the government.
