Fred Phelps Sr., the former head of the Westboro Baptist Church, died late Wednesday night, according to a family member.
Phelps' son, Timothy told 13 News that his father died just before midnight. Timothy Pheps works at the Shawnee Co. Jail.
Ironically, another son who is a member of the church, attorney Jonathan Phelps told us Thursday morning, "Pastor Phelps is doing just fine." That, of course, could have been a spiritual reference.
Over the weekend, we learned that Phelps was reportedly "on the edge of death."
In a statement on his Facebook page, Nathan Phelps, who has been estranged from his father for 30 years, said the senior Phelps was dying in hospice care in Topeka, Kan., and that he had been ex-communicated from his own church in August of 2013.

I was just being satirical when I made the post about his funeral being protested. I guess I swung and hit a home run on that. And I would hate to have his daughter mad at me!
I was wondering the same thing. Glad I read down the comments. Got to keep reading to see the explanation.
I heard they hired a black, gay crew to attend to him.
Request denied.

Around here, they take out the trash on Friday. Good timing, I’d say!
To #17: Re If Westboro Baptist isn’t doing his funeral, then what church in their right mind is?
Try any of the following:
THe Church of I’m Gonna Get Mine Now
Our Lady of Perpetual Pain (Any Eric Idle fans out there?)
The Church of Redemption and Massage Parlor
Simon Levay’s church.
Protesting at any funeral is wrong headed.
Phelps clan was on tape once looking to litigate anyone who reacted to their antagonism.
They were hoping to anger someone enough that they got assaulted or received property damage.
They were even giggling about it.
Don’t have the link anymore, but they were giddy to antagonize people.
Sorry, their entire premise was antagonism, not trying to turn people back to God.
They existed to mock God.
And now they are one less.
Was wondering when he’d finally drop.
Um, that would be Last Rites.
Sincerely,

Add to that list John Murtha, and Robert “Sheets” Byrd.
And there is a whole list of people for whom I will dance the Headstone Stomp.
I would like to add my own “favorite deaths”.

For removing God from the schools in 1963 and paving the way for the hell that are public schools today.
Will the DNC be lowering their flags at half mast in honor of their fallen brother?
Phelps did his deed for the Democrat party very well (and he ran for office several times himself as a Democrat).
He demonized both Christians and the opposition to the norming of homosexuality.
The pink journalists gave his cultish coven of family members far more press than they deserved.
Was he still protesting war dead after Bush left office, or was he just protesting wars when a Republican was in the White House like all good Democrats?
