Among the thousands of pages of documents released by the Clinton Library recently, two had this tantalizing notation at the top: Tape One, Side One.
That stamp appeared on transcripts of two conversations Bill Clinton had behind closed doors with aides inside the Oval Office. They included the presidents ribald remarks on race, frank talk about gays, and even how to prepare for Y2K. And they were captured on cassette tapes.
All of which raises the question: Could there be Clinton Tapes in the tradition of Nixon, Kennedy and LBJ? Might we hear Clinton in his famous Arkansas twang musing that Rep. Tom DeLay was probably to blame for the notorious dragging death of a black man? Could we hear Clinton admit that talking about gays caused his poll numbers to drop? Or that he wishes he could advise Americans to buy shotgun shells before the millennium?
That seems doubtful, as the newly-identified recordings appear to be lost to history. When ABC News asked for copies of the tapes, officials at the Clinton Library (part of the National Archives and Records Administration) said they couldnt find them.
The creation of this particular audio tape, its use, and any transcription [aides] chose to make were all done by White House staff prior to the transfer of Clinton Presidential records to NARA, and as such we simply dont know much more than what can be found by searching the holdings as our Archival staff has done, library official Diane LeBlanc wrote ABC News in an e-mail.
Transcripts of the remarks provided some of the more tantalizing tidbits from the Clinton Librarys latest batch of previously withheld documents release Friday.

Have they checked Sandy Berger’s underwear for the tapes?
“..Have they checked Sandy Bergers underwear for the tapes?”
::::::::::::
Sandy Burglar was a real piece of work. He was very typical of the level of crime that supported the Clintons (both of them)...lest we not forget ChinaGate and what the Clintonistas got away with (not going to Federal prison).
Maybe evidence is on a dress in some closet in the Watergate...
Not to say they had any doubt what those 18 minutes contained.
Oh well! Never mind that if a republican president had destroyed his records he would be brought up on charges.
Hillary is storing them in the area formerly occupied by her billing records.
How... Convenient...
Big time shredder for those tapes and many of evidence no doubt.
What did they have that allowed him to get a slap on the wrist for what he did?
I just posted this to my facebook reminding my liberal “friends” about that fact.
I have to admit, a guilty pleasure is watching the re-make of “Dallas” and last nights episode included the line “Have you ever heard of Monica Lewinsky?” as one of the bad guys described his scheme to use ahem “DNA evidence” to set-up one of the Ewings for an encounter with an underage girl.
Bill Clinton’s Legacy...
Considering HRC worked on Watergate, the irony is thick.
That’s something I never understood about Nixon. The tapes were obviously a political bomb waiting to explode on him - why didn’t he burn them or something? Vanity? Some sense of history that would be lost? Bet Bubba wouldn’t keep anything like that, except maybe for his VHS tapes of Monica playing with the cigar.......
We should go dust off those legal procedures she recommending for Nixon and use them on her.
Eeeeew, yuk!
Took ‘em out with all the other stuff they tried to lift from the White House in the last days. When they returned the furniture and silverware they kept the tapes, I’d surmise.
So by the time someone said, “Hey, wait a minute...” they were long gone.
Nixon's tapes had Scandalous, Telling Admissions! The Clinton's tapes have oodles of "tantalizing tidbits."
The Clinton library has been well scrubbed of anything that could damage Hilary. If anyone looks for a particular story about the messes she made in the WH, must seek another source.
