Greece's cultural gems have become the focus of renewed protest on the streets of Athens following the cash-strapped government's announcement of plans to include prime properties around the Acropolis, and other landmark buildings, in its privatisation programme.
Furious opponents marched through the city centre at the weekend to denounce the "illegal sale" of the country's heritage. More than four years into debt-stricken Greece's prolonged economic crisis, many described the step as the height of humiliation for a nation already hit by excoriating austerity and record levels of poverty and unemployment.

I can only look forward to the day of the federal govt shedding and selling off some “historic” landmark buildings in DC. Here, I’m thinking of the home of the Dept of Education (NOT), Dept of Energy (NOT), EPA... most of all, the IRS.
Dream on——LOL!
Pleasant Dreams is all I got these days, as opposed to terrifying nightmares.
It will have to.
It was done before, beginning in the 1780s to pay revolutionary war debt.
The problem is land sales, say of uncle sugar’s enormous holdings in the west, will be for current operations and not to permanently retire debt. Wouldn’t China love to have tens of millions of acres within its enemy’s borders?
I don’t know who to feel LESS sympathy for here. The lazy, entitled moochers who thought that the world should lend them money to support their transfer payment Ponzi scheme without any expectation of repayment, or the idiot banks who actually loaned this basket case of a country money. I wouldn’t buy anything in this God Forsaken country for any price given that once you own it, this Communist mob will target you next.
Or all of those natural resources that we are not using because of the EPA.
Greece will be a Russian colony before too long.
I was thinking about the Parthenon, but it needs a new roof.
Dibs on the Parthenon. I’m thinking “drive-thru liquor store” here. Maybe put a Mickey D’s at the end.
10 years from now they will get a different government and nationalize all foreign owned property.
Can't we just sell off our gold instead? Must have plenty of that at Fort Knox... right? Right? RIGHT????
