As the White House scrambles to get people signed up for health insurance before the March 31 deadline, many uninsured Americans say they are still planning to take their chances and remain without coverage.
A new study by Bankrate.com shows that about one third of uninsured Americans are going to remain without coverage and opt to pay the penalty.
The survey results suggest that the administrations outreach to uninsured people may be falling short, with more than half of people without insurance unaware of the March 31 deadlineand even more unaware of subsidies that could make their policies more affordable.
Bankrate surveyed 3,005 people and found that 41 percent of those who were uninsured said they plan to stay uninsured because they think that health insurance is too costly. Meanwhile, about 70 percent said they were unaware of subsidies available under the new law that could make their health plans more affordable.

Looks like a significant number of people are saying nope, nope, nope.
1/3? Try about 3/4 of them.
Math is soooo complicated!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6.2 million lost their overage due to cancellations.
4 Million have signed up, 20% haven’t paid their premium.
40 million uninsured (That’s what the administration claimed).
Sounds to me like we now have 3 million more uninsured than before.
However, O’Bummer cites numbers, fully aware that most of his followers will believe anything he says. Math has never been their strong suit, even if it is at 4th grade level.
With all inclusive insurance, it's more that those who take care of themselves enable those who don't
If it were just catastrophic insurance and not mandatory, I'd assume they'd get more signups. The way it is now, it only makes sense for those who already have a catastrophic illness.
I think they claimed 46 or 48 million, the number kept going up as time passed.
Agree. Why should a single, young male want insurance to cover maternity benefits or birth control pills?
Consider what this may mean for obozo if he is actually as toxic as he should be by then: His own side is going to HAVE TO differentiate themselves from him.
Caliph Baraq will have plenty of time to play golf this fall. No Democrat (other than Charlie Crist) wants him anywhere near their campaign.
They’re all begging for Bill Clinton, LOL.
...And the other 2/3 cannot afford it.
Then, reality struck their pocketbooks!
“Why should a single, young male want insurance to cover maternity benefits or birth control pills?”
The only reasons as a young married male, I wanted health insurance was to help pay for the birth of our children.
I didn’t need any real medical treatment until my mid 60’s.
Our adult children now in their mid to late 40’s are basically doctor free. Our nephews and nieces are the same. Some don’t even have a doctor.
The only real affliction/illness on both sides of our families are seasonal allergies. Now, with the over the counter Allegra/Claritin and now Nasal Cort, the nasal cortical steroid spray, they don’t really don’t need a doctor. They might benefit with a prepaid plan for ortho pedic care and a major incident care. Their children, most are teenagers now, never had any major medical expenses besides the zillion shots/immunizations the first few years of life.
As a small business owner who sends out invoices to other businesses each month, I can say that we have trouble collecting from businesses. I can imagine what a nightmare it will be to collect monthly premiums from people who expected to get Obamacare for free.
