Crimea referendum: Wide condemnation after region votes to split from Ukraine
Fox News ^ | 16 Mar 2014

Crimean voters on Sunday overwhelmingly backed a referendum to secede from Ukraine and join Russia, in an election denounced by the United States, Europe and the Ukrainian government as illegal and destabilizing.

Fireworks exploded and Russian flags fluttered above jubilant crowds after the vote, which election officials said stood at 95 percent with more than half of the ballots counted.

The vote, the final results of which were not expected until Monday, offered voters on the strategic Black Sea peninsula the choice of seeking annexation by Russia or remaining in Ukraine with greater autonomy.

Opponents of secession appeared to largely stay away Sunday, denouncing the vote as a cynical power play/land grab by Russia. But turnout was reported to be well above the 50 percent that would make the referendum binding -- and secession was expected to be approved overwhelmingly.

"We want to go back home, and today we are going back home," said Viktoria Chernyshova, a 38-year-old businesswoman. "We needed to save ourselves from those unprincipled clowns who have taken power in Kiev."

No it was far from ok. And the outcome has been much worse than anything that will come of this.

In another grim milestone for the United States and NATO, the Council of Europe (COE) released an explosive report last week, “Inhuman treatment of people and illicit trafficking in human organs in Kosovo.” The report charged that former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) boss and current Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi, “is the head of a ‘mafia-like’ Albanian group responsible for smuggling weapons, drugs and human organs through eastern Europe,” The Guardian disclosed. According to a draft resolution unanimously approved December 16 in Paris, the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights found compelling evidence of forced disappearances, organ trafficking, corruption and collusion between criminal gangs and “political circles” in Kosovo who just happen to be close regional allies of the United States.

So which is the pot and which is the kettle?

If I were you I would be very careful about buying into that vote.

I don’t believe that out come for a second.

There are most certainly people in Crimea who do not want to be back under Russian control. They aren’t appearing in the vote. Why is that?

Right there you have reason to believe this vote was a fraud, used to justify Vlad’s disgusting actions.

We have bought into this so fully, that it’s obvious more of the Ukraine is on the chopping block.

This is NOT good.

After NATO did pretty much the same thing by creating Kosovo I hardly think we have any room to be critical.

Moral relativism is a favorite diversion of the left. You are standing with code pinkos. Enjoy.

Who cares? Russians belong in Russia. Yawn. Too bad Obama doesn’t take OUR borders as seriously as he does Ukraine’s.

Bravo.

If Kosovo was not ok, then Crimea is not ok. If Crimea is ok, then Kosovo is ok. Pot, kettle.

Says you. Hypocrisy is obvious here. Where were you when we were bombing the Serbs?

There was not even a vote then. We simply cut away part of their country and handed it to a former terrorist who has created within it a place of human misery that all of Europe detests. It is a place that makes Chechnya look like a holy land.

We opened that can of worms almost twenty years and now we’re ruing it.

A wrong doesn’t make a right but we have no real leg to stand on. Crimea’s fate is exactly the same as Kosovo. Neither the Russians nor we can do anything about the other situation.

He will very shortly make moves to take the grey area in this map.

There will be a full blown war if Putin moves on Mykolayiv and Odessa. He will stop with Crimea and let his pavement apes lose to reek havoc in Donetsk and Kharkiv. He wants an unstable Ukraine while he consolidates the Crimean gains.

Crimea is filled with mostly Russian Orthodox Christians who will not, I am sure, count on it - turn it into a human slave market and heroin running paradise.

There are some differences. This is far less of a criminal act than what happened to Serbia. There are no cluster bombs still hanging out in Crimea I don't believe.

You are correct in one thing. These Orthodox Christians did not try to exterminate their neighbors.

Could be that Putin is fighting the SOROS backed goons that we detest here though...time will tell.

He was pretty nasty to the Georgians, otoh, which I also have not forgotten.

It's all pipelines in the end, isn't it?

The Serbs got bombed because they supported Bosnian serb dirt bags. Lay down with dogs get up with fleas, FRiend. There is no hypocrisy here. Just moral relativist excuse making on your part.

Oh spare me the phony outrage.

when you post comments like buying off a thug who just invaded Georgia and funds the thugs in Syria and think its okay to allow a Soviet KGB monster to literally take over another country.

Kiev is next there are 60,000 massing on the border folks.

Crimea was full of Greeks and Turks until the Soviets conducted ethnic cleansing and killed off or emprisioned them in gulags.
then they shipped in Russian ex military to reside there.

If Kiev is next then that will be different...my sense is that Putin wanted to keep his only warm water port and is not going any further.

If I am wrong I will make a huge public apology.
