Polling stations in Crimea have closed, the referendum is over. According to the exit polls, 93 percent of people voted for Crimea's accession to Russia at the referendum.
A total of 93 percent of residents of Crimea voted for joining Russia at a referendum on Sunday, an exit poll publicized by the Rossiya 24 TV channel shows.
Seven percent of Crimeans favored being a part of Ukraine, it shows. The voter turnout exceeded 80 percent, the Crimean News Agency reported.
The voting ended at 20:00 pm local time. Crimeans were able to cast votes at 1,205 polling station. Read more: http://voiceofrussia.com/news/2014_03_16/93-of-voters-suppport-Crimeas-accession-to-Russia-exit-polls-8596/
The Crimeans had a choice. They exercised that choice to stay in Ukraine in the form of two referendums in 1991.
I would think that freepers would have at least a healthy skepticism of anything Obama and McCain want to happen.
We’ll have to take a look at the raw numbers.
I’m sure they’ll be posted in the next few days.
I did say most Crimeans - I didn’t say all of them and that wouldn’t be accurate as we both know.
I was referring to the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954. This was accomplished by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet.
AFAIK, no vote by the people. Not that a vote would have been meaningful, at the time.
I’m not making any claim that this vote represents “the will of the Crimean people,” only that the process by which the region became part of Ukraine in the first place wasn’t exactly democratic either.
If I lived in Crimea, I suspect I would have voted to be part of a functioning Russia rather than a disintegrating Ukraine. Particularly since a vote for Russia ends the turmoil and uncertainty, while a win for Ukraine would have meant it continuing.
They did not escape Mexico, they brought it with them. Most still claim Mexico as their country and claim much of our Southwest belongs to them/Mexico. That is what happens when you do not expect/require assimilation.
I surely would not trust those ballot Boxes.
95.5% - rounded off to 96% for accession to Russia.
A perfect designer result
RE: The question is dumb because Mexico has nothing to offer Californians. Thats why Mexicans (hardly the majority) come here. Apples and oranges.
It is DUMB in today’s reality but NOT DUMB in theory.
Just because America is strong today does not guarantee that it will be in the future.
