Briefly, here's the story from the owner's neighbor.
A Walton County Sheriff's deputy shot my friends dog last night while the dog was in his own yard. The officer said he shot him because "he had that look". This was one of the sweetest dogs ever...a big clumsy pup that would lick your face off. Yes he was a blue nose pit bull but he was a PUPPY who loves to play and chew stuff up! The dog actually belonged to Taylor, a 5 year old little girl...now COMPLETELY broken hearted, not to mention confused because a policeman, someone she should see as a protector, just shot her dog. My heart hurts for her. She actually cried herself to sleep on the dogs bed last night.
Something needs to happen because that cop was 100% WRONG for shooting this sweet dog! Will you please share my photo because something needs to be done! That poor dog should NEVER have been shot!
My response is this email to the cop's boss:
If your deputy did act as it has been reported in social media, he needs to find employment elsewhere. He should begin practicing the phrase "Want fries with that" as that's probably the only job for which he MIGHT be suited!
If Schopenhauer has it right, and my experience in my 74 years indicates he is, this "deputy" is NOT "...a good man" and will probably murder a human citizen of Walton County at some point: Compassion for animals is intimately associated with goodness of character, and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man. Arthur Schopenhauer, The Basis of Morality
But, of course, given how today's much thicker "thin blue line" closes ranks around even the worst of their ranks, even THAT sort of behavior will quickly find its way into the ever deepening "law enforcement" memory hole.
Here's a suggestion as to how to eliminate these senseless murders of peoples' pets: NEVER HIRE A COP WHO HASN'T OWNED, LOVED AND CARED FOR A LARGE DOG!
I won't even get into how the "militarization" of the police plays into these sorts of tragedies. That's a topic unto itself.
My granddaughter has 2 full grown Pits and you will never know sweeter animals. I have cautioned her to NEVER CALL THE POLICE TO HER HOME for reasons being made clear with the almost daily killing of these animals by so-called LEOs, many of whom probably these situations as opportunities to shoot at something besides those boring paper targets at the range!
Might want to step away from your monitor now as here's a photo of one of these crazed beasts:
World's Safest Baby!
PS: I'll do my best to stay out of or bypass Walton County even though my son married into one of the original settler families out there. Fortunately, he and his family -- and their 5 dogs -- now live elsewhere. PPS: No reply desired nor expected. Have a GREAT DAY. I'm sure it will be better than that of the 5 year old who loved that dog.

But I didn’t shoot the deputy.
Geez, where is this? I hope I never have ‘that look’.
Sorry Dick, but that cop did that family a favor. It was just a matter of time before the pit bull ATE the little girl.
And the pic of that pit laying on its supper is a little disturbing.
Flame away.
Yeah, the pit bull “that’s great with children”, until the nasy thing rips one of the little crumb cruncher’s face off. Cripes I hate that dog.
That picture is scary. That dog is claiming the baby as his.
I had a friend that had a Bull Terrier which was the nicest dog.
Petting it was like petting a brick but it was really nice and behaved.
A sherif’s deputy just shot and killed a pit bull in Walton County, Florida and I immediately thought that is what this was about.
Then I noticed it is Walton County, Georgia.
Anyway I have often been critical of LEOs shooting dogs but the one in Florida had already seriously injured a woman.
It didn’t take long for the “every Pitbull is evil and must be destroyed” crowd to come out. Hey there are some cops that have shot or beat people to death without cause or reason so “let’s kill all the cops”, there have been some Priests and Ministers who have sexually abused children so “lets kill all the Priests and Ministers”, there have been some soldiers who have killed innocents, so “lets kill all the soldiers” Hyperbole is wonderful and stupid at the same time!
How is it that news reports state that this same puppy bit a child last year???
Another fool dog owner letting it run loose to annoy and frighten the neighbors.
I can’t even print what I want to say right now.
Thank you for that adorable pic. What a bloodthirsty monster. /S
Here's cop with his *big* dog....and he has threatened: *couldnt wait to get the order to kick your door in* to take away unregistered guns; his name is Joseph Peterson of the Branford, CT Police Department.
I don't care how often someone says "it's all in how they're raised" ... every single time one turns and kills or maims someone, their owner seems "surprised."
Oh, I scrolled halfway down and saw the dog, but not the baby. Yes...that’s not a good idea, perhaps.
Still think pits can make perfectly good pets, though.
Will you please post a link to a story about it?
What look is that, exactly? Dogs are pretty good judges of character. I’m betting that the deputy had “that look” first.
I would not let ANY dog that close to a baby.
I have a distant cousin who is a real redneck. He wore a mullet until recently. On the other hand he is unusually handsome and married a gorgeous girl from a well to do family. He is also likeable.
He always bragged on his pit bulls and claimed they were really gentle. One day I saw him with a bandage that completely covered his hand. Sure enough one of his pit bulls bit him but he claims it wasn’t the dogs fault. Totally in denial.
He now has a couple of babies and I shudder to think what might happen.
