U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry thinks it is a “mistake” for Israel to demand that the Palestinian Authority (PA) recognize it as a Jewish state in order to achieve peace.
“I think it's a mistake for some people to be raising it again and again as the decider of their attitude towards the possibility of a state and peace, and we've obviously made that clear," Kerry told the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday, when asked to clarify the official position of the Obama administration on the issue, according to the Breitbart website.
He further said that the issue was resolved in 1947, when UN Resolution 181, which divided Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state, was passed. This resolution, said Kerry, referred to "Jewish state" several times.
Kerry also said that former PA Chairman Yasser Arafat explicitly recognized Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has insisted that the PA recognize Israel as a Jewish state in order to reach a peace agreement, explaining that the Arabs’ refusal to recognize Israel stands at the heart of the conflict.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has repeatedly insisted that the PA would not recognize Israel as a Jewish state and has also stressed that the future Palestinian state would not include the presence of a single Israeli – civilian or soldier.
He stood his ground last Friday, saying during a meeting with Fatah youth activists that that there is "no way" he will recognize Israel as a Jewish state and accept a Palestinian capital in just a portion of eastern Jerusalem.

The congress as the representatives of the 70% of Americans who endorse Israel as a good ally would do us all a favor by showing Israel Kerry doesn’t speak for America, just like he didn’t speak for the Swift Boat men.
Call Congress and ask that they do what Truman didn’t do, namely declare officially that Israel is a Jewish State and Jerusalem its capitol of 4,000 years is now its official capitol.
And if the Arabs don’t like it, then full speed ahead for fracking and the Pipeline. We have nothing but grief buying and protecting Arab oil.
You forgot to mention opening the ANWR to drilling. We still need the Alaskan oil for the West Cost refineries. Oil trains, hauling Bak ken crude might be cheaper than Alaskan crude but the oil trains are crowding out other cargo and driving up the costs of food products. It is a mistake to try to rely so much on rail traffic all from the same area.

How can a nation make peace with people who won’t recognize it has the right to exist. Kinda makes the “peace” deal a bit of a joke.

By the same token do we think it’s a mistake for Saudi Arabia to insist it’s an Islamic state ?
He repeats what that French Premier said, Israel’s founding being a mistake. Kerry’s sister lives in France and neighbors there had her for dinner. Liberals think they steal intelligent information and get educated, but they only get brainwashed.
