Things got wild this week at a California school board meeting where locals berated a superintendent who was found to be bringing home a yearly compensation package of $663,000.

Centinela Valley high school district superintendent Jose Fernandez spoke at the start, declaring that the media had exaggerated his salary and benefits, and saying he would take a significant pay cut down to less than $300,000. […]

A steady stream of local citizens, including high school students, got up to speak, excoriating Fernandez and the board members who approved his compensation in 2009. One man, Jay Gould, shouted that all Fernandez and the board care about is money, as he hurled a fistful of dollars onto the stage and walked away. …

Easy to find out, just file a records request from the school district. They can’t deny the request, it’s a matter of public record. They can drag their feet, but they have to turn the info over......in Texas at least.

Yes, money and power. It is what the Kalifornia libs have done to the state. Hard to believe the state was the LEADING state in all respects in the nation about 40 years ago. Now it is at the bottom in K-12 education and fiscally, well, the state debt is an astronomical record.

Hard to believe it was once the greatest...until the voting fools gave it to the libs.

I see a case of “income inequity”

Only 600 grand?

Don't they have thousands of retired state employees making over 200 grand?

Funny thing is, the BLS Inflation Calculator claims that 1¢ in 1913 (when the Federal Reserve was created) is now worth 24¢ in 2014 dollars. Looks like a recalculation to me.

He’s worth every penny-—deducted from his overbloated salary that is. That’s a lot of tamales they pay Jose.

I think this was on Greta last night. IIRC, the guy’s school district has only 6,000 students. He gets guaranteed annual raises of 9% per year, got some 2% “loan” for over $800K because he could not get a mortgage due to a bankruptcy... free car, free cell phone... etc. It is really over the top.

Very little education involved with a superintendent. It’s all community outreach, glad handing, trips and terrorizing serfs...I mean staff.

This is why it is critically important to run in local elections such as school board.

The “superintendent” scam is nation-wide. ALL of them get paid exorbitant salaries, pensions and perks...ALL of them. They shuffle around the US in their careers, fleecing taxpayers daily.

education is a business...the school boards are just donothings that ensure their friends keep their pensions and fat paychecks...

and I am so tired of "well, this school district pays this much" as an excuse to pay these exorbitant salairies...

no where in the world can you make that much money and benefits for a mere education degree with a little cream on top..business, or "organizational management" etc...the types of course that are sujective and not hard science...IMO anyway...
