Palin endorses T.W. Shannon in Senate race in Oklahoma

Sarah Palin on Wednesday endorsed former Oklahoma House speaker T.W. Shannon (R) for his state's open U.S. Senate seat.

Shannon is running against Rep. James Lankford and a number of other candidates in the Republican primary to replace Sen. Tom Coburn (R). The 36-year old has gotten some early buzz as the first African American to serve as House speaker in Oklahoma, but he remains an underdog, according to the most recent polls.

"T.W.’s opponent has the backing of Beltway insiders, but T.W. has the passion and experience We the People need in Washington," Palin wrote on her Facebook page.

Conservative groups including the Club for Growth aren't big fans of Lankford, but Shannon so far hasn't drawn big-name tea party support.

Palin, whose endorsement was once about the most important thing a tea party candidate could get in a GOP primary, said earlier Thursday that she plans to unveil more endorsements in the coming months.

Previously, she endorsed Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) for governor and tea party activist Katrina Pierson in her primary with Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Tex.). Pierson lost badly; Abbott faced only nominal primary opposition.

Update 4:16: Shannon says in a statement that he's proud to have Palin's endorsement.

“It is hard to put in to words how honored I am to have the confidence and support of a leader like Sarah Palin,” he said. “She is one of the few leaders in this country who is truly committed to the conservative, constitutional principles that will return our country to greatness."

Well, it's a pretty sure bet now that he's the next senator from Oklahoma!

bump!

I hope.. and her endorsement helps. But it’s not a sure bet yet.

Last I’d seen, the moderate/establishment guy, Lankford was polling ahead of Shannon.

Annnnd we have another problem and his name is Randy Brogdon. Brodgon for whatever reason just dropped out of the Governors Race to run for Senate.

Brogdon will now split the Conservative vote between he and Shannon.. possibly causing Lankford to win.

but Shannon so far hasn't drawn big-name tea party support.

Sounds like that is going to change, pronto.

I think Sarah needs to make some GOP primary campaign stops in Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Nebraska too ...

Hopefully the endorsement convinces Brogdon to leave the race. CfG and SCF should endorse right away

I’m glad that Palin did this. I support Shannon, but Lankford is no RINO. To be honest, I’m not watching this primary closely. With Randy Brogdon in the race, it increases the chance of a runoff.

As much as people want Palin to run for President, this is where she shows her strength.
The more she plays king maker, the better she gets at it.

Lankford is a RINO.

He is Tom Cole’s puppet.

Yeah the Tom Cole that recently called for the Washington Redskins to change their name....

If that’s the case, I hope you have a Shannon for Senate sign in your front yard and have given them out to your relatives and close friends.

Yep check this article out..

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2014/03/12/lankford-up-big-in-oklahoma-gop-senate-primary-internal-poll-shows/

Despite his conservative record, groups like the Club for Growth do not like Lankford — who is the fifth-ranking member of House GOP leadership as Republican Policy Committee chairman — and have made little secret of that fact. The Club is set to make some kind of Senate race endorsement on Wednesday, but it’s not clear whether it will be in Oklahoma.

Great news.

Shannon should be the pick here, more because of what’s right with him rather than what’s wrong with his opponents.

Most excellent news. You probably know this. You can google, “Free TW Shannon Bumper Sticker, and find the link for a free bumper sticker. They will then send u a card to fill out for yard signs, and other things one can do to volunteer. I would post the link but I am on my cell phone. I hope all Oklahoma Freepers do this.

Brogdon jumps from race to race. He was running for Governor until this seat opened up. I hope the good people of Oklahoma remember that. We need someone who is more stable and committed.
