Dozens of rockets as well as mortar rounds were fired from the Gaza Strip Wednesday at southern Israeli towns. Hours later the IDF fired tank shells at what it termed terror targets in the Strip.
Israeli reports put the number of rockets at over 60, and Islamic Jihad, which took responsibility for the attack, said it had fired 90 rockets at Israel. The organization said in a statement that it had launched an ongoing military operation, which it termed Breaking the Silence.
No Israeli casualties were initially reported in the largest attack from the Strip since Operation Pillar of Defense in late 2012.
Most of the rockets fell in open areas, though one rocket landed in the center of Sderot. In all, damage was reported in two impact sites.
Four consecutive alarms were heard by residents of Sderot as well as the nearby Eshkol Regional Council. Residents throughout the entire region were instructed to remain in protected areas. Explosions were heard in Sderot, Netivot and surrounding areas.
Some of the rockets were reported to have been launched from the east Gaza City neighborhood of Shujaiyya.
IAF jets were reportedly flying over the Strip, apparently

"Fry'em."
I’m sure the west will call for “restraint”
The Israelis should cut power and water to the Gaza Strip. Period. Just stop it. And wall up any access points from Gaza into Israel. No one in through Israel. No one out through Israel.
Which side will get sympathy and help from our administration?
And it was just exactly this period of time that the phony activist Medea Benjamin planned to be in Gaza for the so-called Women’s Day. She’s earned the status of being listed as a terrorist group.
Religion of peace my hip pockets. A religion, or rather, a cult of murder, rape, pedophiles, thieves, punks, and liars. Darn, sounds like the Obama administration.
Only on Israel’s part. Where is the condemnation of the rocket attacks?
I see on Breitbart that crazy Iran is saying their hand is on the trigger to destroy Israel. I can’t help but wonder if this missing jet is going to show up, equipped with a bomb.
God protect Israel.
Israel, send the Gazans back home to Egypt, retake the Sinai, and then announce your readiness for a genuine (for a change!) peace...
I think we all know the answer to that.
Wars and rumors of wars on every corner...
If that is the plan, it’s a high likelihood that the plane will explode on the tarmac during loading.
Call it a “work incident”.
“The Islamic Jihad took responsibility for firing some of the rockets at Israel, and indicated that the attack was retaliation for the Tuesday killing at the hands of the IDF of three Islamic Jihad operatives as they prepared to fire at Israel from the Gaza Strip.”
Israel should just mow the Gaza Strip down, and everything in it.
And pushing the people there into the Sinai.
The Islamic Jihad took responsibility for firing some of the rockets at Israel, and indicated that the attack was retaliation for the Tuesday killing at the hands of the IDF of three Islamic Jihad operatives as they prepared to fire at Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The Al-Quds Brigades responded to (Israeli) aggression with a volley of rockets, the group said in a statement Wednesday, minutes after the rocket attack.
So, jihadis try an attack on Israel, it is foiled by the IDF, so the jihadis "retaliate" because of Israeli "aggression"?!?
It's not "aggression" when you're defending yourself from attack. The attackers are the "aggressors". And how is it "retaliation" against you when you attempted to instigate harm initially? That's not "retaliation". It's "damn, you caught us the first time we tried to hurt you, so now we'll try again."
What a bunch of morons those jihadists are.

Israel tanks fired at two terrorist targets in southern Gaza after the pro-Iranian Jhad Islami claimed responsibility for firing up to 70 rockets in a continuous barrage Wednesday against the Shear Hanegev region and the towns of Sderot and Netivot. Many thousands of citizens warned by red alerts ran for shelter and were warned by the authorities to stay there. No immediate reports of casualties but damage was caused to property."
“Residents in the Beit Hanoun area of Gaza said they saw an Israeli strike hit a rocket launcher squad.”
