I don't know much about their system. I do know my son was born in a German hospital. I was self insured and not on the system. I saw a German doctor during my pregnancy and that was very affordable. I only went once every two months (as opposed to monthly in the US and even weekly toward the end of the pregnancy) and for a nominal fee he performed the ultrasounds in the office.
However, at the time of birth, I had a strange doctor I never saw before (or after) for the delivery. That was not a big deal for me but many women would really have a problem with it.
Additionally because I was private pay, I had a big giant room all to myself (and an adjoining room). I would see the German women all cramped up three to a room with all their families trying to fit in there.
Another caveat, I had to BEG to leave after three days. They wanted me to stay for a week which is standard. No one was kicking me out after 24 hours.
Just my limited experience with Euro care. I don't think anyone can give an accurate assessment of a healthcare system until they have a life threatening illness that needs costly treatment and perhaps they are over 50.
