Search teams are scouring waters off both sides of the Malaysian peninsula, amid confusion over a missing Malaysia Airlines plane's last known location.
Malaysia's air force chief has denied reports that the plane was tracked to the Malacca Strait in the west.
Vietnam has despatched a plane to investigate an eyewitness report of a possible object burning in the sky east of Vietnam. --SNIP--
On Wednesday, Malaysia's air force chief Rodzali Daud denied remarks attributed to him in local media that a missing Malaysia Airlines plane was tracked by military radar to the Malacca Strait, far west of its planned route.
Gen Daud said he "did not make any such statements", but the air force had "not ruled out the possibility of an air turn-back".
Meanwhile, Vietnam said it had deployed aircraft to investigate a possible sighting of the plane.
Doan Huu Gia, deputy general director of Vietnam's air traffic management, said: "We received an email from a New Zealander who works on one of the oil rigs off Vung Tau.
"He said he spotted a burning [object] at that location, some 300 km (200 miles) southeast of Vung Tau."

I blame Illinois Nazis.
Where is that “I’m not saying it was aliens” guy?
Amish.
My poorly made point is that there’s so much information pouring out from smart phones and laptops and other electronics. What happened to the plane was quick and catastrophic, no time for anyone to send out a message or use the satellite phones on board (I figure there must be satphones on board). Hijacking? No. Not a takeover-and-fly-around-for-awhile-looking-for-a-place-to-land type of hijack. People fight back since 9-11. Explosion? Very possible. Mechanical? Most likely. Something unassuming that caused a change of direction but no alarm for passengers to start sending emails, calls, tweets, etc.
Have M get in touch with Commander Bond
I threw out the “suddenly Gassed” theory above.
Thoughts??
Or as Donald Rumsfield fond of saying, "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
Or my own preference when i teach, We do not know what we do not know!"
I think MH370 landed safely somewhere.
Like Payne Stewart or the Nelson DeMille book (title forgotten but very good book) ? It’s possible but that would require, I think, a great deal of planning. It’s an awful big plane to ‘gas’, I think. Decompression with ‘jackers having their own air supply? More likely, just figure out a way to do it quickly. There’s so much I don’t know about this topic. If your theory is right then something else went wrong. After all, why go through all that trouble just to end up in the drink?
“There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t know we don’t know.”
I certainly hope so. I guess I just don’t see where a plane that size could be landed without someone noticing. But again, I hope you’re right.
who shot it down? Malaysia or China. Somebody did and they are not telling the world the truth. I think the USA already knows what happened.
Just a theory that Gassing could be a trial run.
One person blocks access to the cockpit door, the other Gasses the Pilots.
guessing with what type of chemical agent? Could they have slipped on board
I am still amazed how so few actually grasp that whole concept.
A Nerve Gas, or any Gas that would immediately disable the Pilots.
They could then enter after dissipation, take control of the Aircraft, and fly it anywhere they want.
Plausible??
Nightfall
I was under the false impression, transporting those belligerent tourist back to their homeland was a good deed. But again, my bad. Malaysia Air was making a profit from such an endeavor, therefore being ruthlessly capitalistic. And we know those greedy capitalist never get punished.
