So if you’re going the speed limit in the left lane, it’s a misdemeanor if you don’t get out of the way of someone breaking the law?

That is exactly correct, even if you are going ten over and they want to go twelve over.

In some cases it is considered vigilanteism.

A real solution to the squishy laws would be to bump all the speed limits by 10 mph and then institute a zero tolerance enforcement. 70 becomes 80 and if you go 81, you get a ticket. It’s how it works in the real world anyway (ask any cop). The current squishy speed limits allow them to use it as an excuse to pull over people for other reasons.

Yep. It's not the driver's responsibility to enforce the speed limit by impeding traffic.

I think there’s a reason they call it the PASSING LANE.

If you are in the left lane, and you are not actively passing someone, YOU are breaking the law.

If you don’t move out of the way of faster traffic you too are breaking the law.

Many, many times I have witnessed people going well below the posted speed limit and going 10-20 miles under the posted speed limit. If someone is doing the speed limit, they should move to the right lane unless they are passing slower traffic on the right.

The rule of thumb is:
Keep right except to pass. (nothing difficult about it)

I have also seen people pulling over in front of people trying to pass them on the right.

It’s a good law and I hope they enforce it.

yep. As an American it is my God given right to speed. Wussy.
Seriously one problem is people going the speed limit in both lanes allowing traffic to pile up with the poor buy in the back going about 30 on interstate. I’ve seen it happen.

I recall G. Gordon Liddy’s commentary about this eons ago. SPEED doesn’t kill... differental speed kills. And he also.was emphatic that the left lane is called the “overtaking lane” and as long as you are not overtaking someone, you rarely belong there.

I drove on the Autobahn... once. I was all of 18 driving 136 MPH... and up behind me were Lamborghinis and Porsches wanting to overtake me... I got out of the way.

You need to understand: in this region, the _normal_ cruising speed for a 65MPH zone is 80. Law enforcement doesn’t even begin to enforce that law until 20MPH _over_ the posted limit.

Whatever the law says the speed limit is, anyone doing 20% or more _below_ the _normal_ speed of some 75% of vehicles in dense traffic is a hazard.

And yes, the speed limit should be increased to what normal traffic in good conditions runs. It’s the norm without adverse incident; anyone disrupting the normal flow is a far greater risk to human life than ignoring numbers on an occasional sign.
