Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was hundreds of miles off course, traveling in the opposite direction from its original destination and had stopped sending identifying transponder codes before it disappeared, a senior Malaysian Air Force official told CNN Tuesday.
If correct, these are ominous signs that could call into question whether someone in the cockpit might have deliberately steered the plane away from its intended destination, a former U.S. aviation investigator said.
"This kind of deviation in course is simply inexplicable," said Paul Goelz, former managing director of the National Transportation Safety Board.
(snip) The Malaysian Air Force lost track of the plane over Pulau Perak, a tiny island in the Straits of Malacca -- many hundreds of miles from the usual flight path for aircraft traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, the official said.

This thread has a lot of interesting speculation as well:

It is becoming obvious that Muslim nations in SE Asia know more that they are revealing.

What is the flight distance from Mogadishu to new York or DC?
:0
So, all these people were involved in the terrorist plot?
Air traffic control, the fighter pilots, those on the fight deck of the missing aircraft?
Ya think those searching for the debris are in on it to?
Air traffic control provides aircraft separation. The pilots do the flying.
Maybe the flight deck lied to the ATCs and pax about “mechanical problems”?
That leaves the fighter jets ....
Thank you.
” Im shocked this little island has a major airport.”
It’s the home of the Indian Navy/Air Force Andaman-Nicobar Command. They started setting it up on an old Japanese Airbase in 2001, to counter China’s moves, and to bottle up the Malacca Straights in the event of a conflict with China, a real possibility for them.
It is just 50 miles from an island the Chinese have leased from Burma, and are developing Naval facilities on.
No! One F/A-18 and a pilot-turned-terrorist is all it would take. The flight may have been forced into a turn then shot down. Unlikely, but simple as that. Now the Malaysian airline spokespeople are being told to spout BS until the Malaysian government is willing to fess up.
Someone commented on another site that the photo of the two Iranians released by Interpol looks photoshopped because their legs look the same.
But you need one with the Imperial codes:
Or if they were at low altitude the plane would have been burning more fuel. Maybe they didn’t figure on that.
I ran across an article claiming some of the passengers had ‘active’ statuses on a Chinese social site, QQ, in the days after its disappearance. Also, a Chinese group has claimed responsibility for this, though it’s not believed to be authentic and it’s from a hushmail email account and supposedly untraceable. China is reportedly giving Malaysia a hard time now about coming clean with all they know, since they would have presumably known for a while now the plane had been far off course and away from the original search area.
But over a US city would be devastation both physically and psychologically.
In the modern day and age, I would think you'd give your nuke some smarts (and probably a cell phone, too). That way, on reaching New York harbor, it would check that item off its to-do list and phone home for further instructions. If the call doesn't go through, it could fall back on waiting to be unpacked at its destination (1 WTC, Vesey St. 10006?) or for any attempt to disarm it or transport it away from NYC. Lots of things are possible if you give your gadget some situational awareness.
If such orders went out they would be monitored and work would get out.
There is a concept of “uninterruptible autopilot” technology, which if hacked could allow remote hijacking.

Interesting.. There is reason to believe this may have been shot down. This would explain Malaysian authorities directing searches in areas they know the plane not to be. They know evidence could lead to a downing by their own hand. I can’t believe they’d hide this, but lying and deception are a way of life in the world of Islam.
I did, and still think it was hijacked. I never considered a repaint, refit and nuke to our shores. Yikes.

Yeah, and if you hit the water flying parallel to it, you make a lot less radar mess, or satellite mess, for that matter. Public-domain weather sats would show a water-’landing’ if it went down fast from 35Kft.
