People talk about football because you can wax passionate, you can talk all day and not know a thing about it and everybody has to respect your opinion. You can wax passionate and not piss anybody off because, if they didn’t yawn and walk away, they hold the same crazy views you do.
BUT, to resolve unemployment would mean doing away with lots of governmental regulation and hobbling or dissolving entire governmental empires. Walter Lippmann said (words to the effect), “You can go to Washington intent on solving the trade problem or taxation or labor issue, but you will quickly enflame a response that will stop any further actions on your part.” The employment situation was caused by Washington politicians and every brick in that wall is sacred to some constituent who is voting for you and contributing to your campaigns. So, the employment is the last thing they’ll discuss.
