I was there for the 89 quake that hit the Bay Area.

I was there, too. Hard to believe that it was almost 25 years ago!

From birth I spent most of my life just south of San Francisco, back when it was Reagan Country. Earthquakes are much better than annual tornadoes, and the small ones are almost fun. If you would like a good description of the ‘89 quake, here it is; we were in the furnished basement waiting for the game to start. As the first waves began, we moved to the doorway. I was holding on to the door frame when the major wave hit. The door frame (the house) leaped out of my hand grip. I’ll never forget it.

I was in the Fairfield/Vacaville area, just sitting down to watch the Giant/As game. The first thing that happened, the TV screen went blank. About 5 seconds later, the house started to shake, not nearly like it did in SF, but I did feel it.
