I was curious about the spy satellites but here according to Drudge article:

The United States extensively reviewed imagery taken by American spy satellites for evidence of a mid-air explosion, but saw none, a U.S. government source said. The source described U.S. satellite coverage of the region as thorough.

So no mid-air explosion according to satellites —

That's interesting. I wonder what kind of satellites would be watching the region for sudden flares from a pinpoint source of heat? (Yes, it's a rhetorical question)
