ROME (Reuters) - International police agency Interpol said at least two passports recorded as lost or stolen in its database were used by passengers on board a missing Malaysia Airlines flight, and said it was "examining additional suspect passports" on Sunday.
Interpol said no checks of its database had been made by any country on an Austrian and an Italian passport between the time that they were stolen and the departure of the flight.
"Whilst it is too soon to speculate about any connection between these stolen passports and the missing plane, it is clearly of great concern that any passenger was able to board an international flight using a stolen passport listed in Interpol's databases," Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said in a statement.
excellent point that no one has mentioned anywhere.
What I see is two tech crew had ‘middle eastern/muslim’ names. Also it is not documented but the co pilot had the same and had only been flying 7 years. That is enough time after 9-11 to train a few radical muslim pilots and getting them in the driver’s seat. My thoughts are inside/outside job combo. Probably not the co pilot but tech crew and passengers that had stolen passports.
They just scanned it, which is why they have a record. But they didn’t check it until the plane went missing,
i thought scanning checked it ... my mistake.. what function does scanning serve?
It only checks numbers if the country or airport is tied into the Interpol database. Malaysia did not check the database, according to Interpol, so I guess they don’t routinely do this.
They probably will in the future....
