SPRINGFIELD—The daughter of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, President Barack Obama’s former minister, was convicted by a federal jury Friday of laundering thousands of dollars from a $1.25 million state grant for a Chicago-based job-training program.

Jeri Wright said she would "definitely" appeal the verdict in U.S. District Court, which found her guilty of 11 counts that included money laundering, lying to federal agents and lying to a grand jury.

$1,200,000.00 to train 40 people how to lay bricks and pull wire? That's $30,000 per trainee. Two weeks as a laborer for a mason, and two weeks as an electrician's helper pays you about $12.00 per hour. I'm not quite sure why the government would pay grants to a third party do what the trades already are structured to do?

Wright's daughter was pilfering from a $1.25 million state grant which financed a not-for-profit work and education program called "We Are Our Brother's Keeper," owned by Regina Evans, former police chief of Country Club Hills, and her husband, Ronald Evans Jr.
