A whopping 41% of people who are transgender or gender-nonconforming have attempted suicide sometime in their lives, nearly nine times the national average, according to a sweeping survey released three years ago.
In a new study released Tuesday, researchers dug deeper into that number, analyzing the results of the National Transgender Discrimination Survey to examine what puts transgender people at such "exceptionally high" risk.
Researchers from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law found that the risk of attempting suicide was especially severe for transgender or gender nonconforming people who had suffered discrimination or violence, such as being physically or sexually assaulted at work or school.
Among transgender people who became homeless because of bias against their gender identity, 69% said they had tried to kill themselves. Out of those who had been turned away by a doctor because they were transgender or gender-nonconforming, 60% had attempted suicide sometime in their lives, the survey found.

Telling a man that he is a woman because he believes it to be so is akin to giving a sword and a funny hat to a man that believes that he is Napoleon and telling him that if he invades Russia he’ll feel better about himself.
Transgenderism IS a deep seated psychological problem.
It’s all spelled out right here. The rest is just variations on a poorly written theme.
Borderline Personality Disorder DSM IV Criteria:
A pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impulsivity beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
1. frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.
2. a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
3. identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
4. impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.
5. recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior
6. affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).
7. chronic feelings of emptiness
8. inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)
9. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

Being “transgendered” is prima facie proof of a screwed up life. It’s no wonder they are attempting suicide.
We’re supposed to tell them “It gets better” but that’s a lie. They’ll be mentally ill and mutilated.
I’ll tell them it gets better when they get into mental health treatment and are trying to get over their illness.
It is not a surprised these poor unfortunate people are mentally ill.
For this study to have any relevance they need to compare these suicide rates with those of other people with extreme mental illness.
“attempted” suicide? “Look at me, I attempted suicide”. They didn’t “attempt” very hard or they wouldn’t still be sucking up my oxygen.
“Did the guy inside kill the girl outside or visa versa?”
I don;t even know with these freaks. There could also be dogs involved in there somewhere..
Particularly Christians and conservatives.
I read that transgendered/gender noncomforming persons living in Amsterdam, the “most tolerant” society known and where transgendered are accepted, have an equally high suicide rate. That was a surprise to me; I’d heard for years that bias drives suicide but compare with a non-biased society (or less so) the numbers don’t budge.
I feel for physicians on this one. If a person is requesting gender reassignment surgery, once can conclude that they are not adjusted to their present life and that’s why they want surgery. If a physician performs radical surgery (gender reassignment) on a person known to have severe adjustment issues and known to be a member of a extremely population with extremely high suicide rates, doesn’t the physician become vulnerable to litigation (wrongful death or?) “Dr., Please tell the court why you felt this member of a high suicide rate population known to be struggling with identity (adjustment) issues at the time you initially examined them seemed like a good candidate to undergo radical, possibly traumatic, surgery at this time?”
This is very sad. It’s sad because even if the whole of society “accepted” the “transgender” scam, these people would still know that something is terribly wrong.
I don’t have the answers, but somehow I feel that the church doesn’t have enough of a hand extended to help these people. This is a spiritual problem, and only God can heal.
I have a friend who chose upon this route. I don’t endorse it, but I’m always there when he needs to talk, and I don’t judge. Not my job IMHO.
Why would a medical doctor turn away a patient because of their perception of gender?
I'm guessing by "doctor" they mean something different than I am thinking, and by "turn away" they mean something other than "refuse to treat for a physical illness".
I read somewhere that 25% of transgender people who go "all the way" to physical modification still commit suicide. My guess is that they THINK their problems are because of their gender (which is generally a reflection of bad sexual stereotypes), and so they go through the transgender steps, each time not feeling any better, and when they reach the end, and are still miserable, they give up and kill themselves.
And I think a lot of the suicides ARE because doctors won't "treat" transgender people -- as people who need emotional work. Instead, there is a great stigma that if you present in a stereotype of a different sex, you MUST change, or else you are a bigot. So people who in older times would have gotten actual counseling to "straighten out" (predictions on when that phrase will be striken from our language), are now instead forced to deny who they are.
I've read it in transgender writings on tumblr -- the fight they think they have to wage because their brain is telling them one thing, and their body is telling them another.
And while in every other case we'd tell people "be true to your nature, don't let other people's stereotypes mess you up", for transgender people we say "stereotypes are reality, whatever your poor brain thinks you MUST accept, even if every thing else in your body tells you otherwise."
So a guy who loves having sex with a girl, but thinks he is a "girl" because he is emotional, likes to get approval from others for appearance (look pretty), and thinks that "attractive dressing" is a way to get that approval, calls himself "transgender", says he is a "lesbian", his poor girlfriend of course puts up with this because she still has a man when it comes to the sack, plus females tend to stay in abusive relationships. And the guy changes his life to be a "woman", actually looks pretty good for the part, has the moves (mime training), but when he speaks, the words he says, the phrases, the thoughts expressed -- they are more male than the way I sometimes speak. And he's beginning to wonder if he needs to do hormones so he can have boobs (even though a lot of real girls don't like them), wants to wear dresses (even though a lot of real girls think dresses are stupid), and will consider physical surgery when he has enough money if he isn't "happy". There may be a few people who have a real problem, but I think a lot more just need to accept themselves as they are, and unfortunately the modern sex movement is extremely intolerant of anybody suggesting they need "help" to figure out their real sex.
Maybe sexuality is determined at birth, but you're either XX, XY, or have some other chromosome anomaly. Sexuality =/ sex.
Exactly. It’s everyone else’s fault for not embracing their choice and viewing them as just as well adjusted as everyone else. [/s]
The mental gymnastics of such “reasoning” is simultaneously amazing and nauseating.
Highest suicide rate— imagine that, but it’s not a mental disease just like being a queer isn’t. Haha
I knew one of those he-she’s at Lockheed Martin. He-she wore high heels and a dress and grew long hair and also sported a beard. They had to build a special restroom for this “guy”. We had to attend a 3 hour training session on not discriminating against this “guy”. I guess he-she had Lockheed by the short hairs.
