Sympathy for substance-abusers will have the same result as welfare has had on "the poor." It makes them comfortable staying right where they are.
But having sympathy for drug abusers makes you feel superior. That's the important thing.

Never claimed to be perfect and I am sure when I go to meet Jesus there will be a lot to answer for.
But among my many sins, using illegal drugs or committing Suicide will not be among them.

so very christian of you.... A bit like the public "sympathy and outrage" over AIDS deaths when the transmission methods are well known and cities and corporations now fund "gay pride" parades.
Here's an idea, maybe companies and cities should celebrate nuclear (1 male, 1 female, with orbiting offspring) families instead of mainstreaming what were formerly self-identified as "alternative lifestyles" (you are no longer permitted to say they are 'different', that is so heteronormative).
