I agree that changing the clocks twice a year is a hassle (and a growing IT burden for many corporations). But if we are going to agree on keeping one time, we should stick with Daylight Savings Time instead of Standard Time. Having that extra daylight during the summer months at the end of the working day is psychologically important for most people.

In fact, push the daylight as late into the day as possible. How drab would it be to come home from work in the middle of summer to a sunset? On the other hand, how great would it be to come home from work in June or July, fire up the grill and sit in your backyard for hours before the sun sets.

Make it so you get a sunset in summer around 9 or 9:30 pm and I can live with that. You would even still have some daylight left in the middle of winter on the way home from work.

Dark mornings, I think we can learn to deal with.

I love that extra hour of daylight in the evening. I always have.

Here in Arizona, many of us look forward to having the sun set in June or July. Fortunately, Arizona stays on Standard Time all year.

Does that actually happen anywhere on standard time?

Also, recall that the current imposition of "savings time" originated from Jimmy Carter's response to the Arab oil embargo of the 1970's. It was supposed to decrease oil imports, which, of course, it never did.

Previously it was imposed as "war time" to increase agricultural production. I am not sure if the crops grew faster and lusher or not. I rather doubt it.

Myself, I want a 13th month added to the calendar, so I get an additional Social Security check.

There is no “extra daylight” associated with this ridiculous nonsense, the days are exactly the same length before or after.

I agree. Late sunsets and early morning sunrises were never a problem for me.

I vote for that. Let's spring forward, enjoy a longer day, and stay there. No more switching. Takes me weeks to get used to the change in the spring.
