Forget olive oil. Israel’s offshore drilling is about to make it the Middle East’s next energy exporter.
It wasn’t long ago that Israel’s oil and gas industry was the territory of wishful thinkers like John Brown, a born-again Christian from Texas who saw a map to oil gushers in readings of the Bible. In the 1980s, I interviewed his site manager, also a born-again Christian, who told me that the Lord had bequeathed oil to his chosen people. In a cluttered cabin in the hills of central Israel, the rangy Texan leafed through his copy of the Bible and read me Deuteronomy 33:24: “Of Asher he said, More blessed than sons is Asher. May he be favored by his brothers, and may he dip his foot in oil.”
Asher and his descendants hadn’t found oil, the prospector said, but they just didn’t know where to look—or have the tools we have today. For guidance, he pointed to another verse, Deuteronomy 32:12-13: “The Lord alone guided him, and there was no foreign god with him. He made him ride on the high places of the earth, and he ate the produce of the field. And He made him suck honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty rock.”
“High places—rock—there’s oil here somewhere,” the prospector continued, throwing his arms wide to include all the hills and forests and distant sea. However, after years of searching the desert and rocky wastes, he confessed: “Maybe I got it wrong. Maybe they meant olive oil.”

Israel’s natural gas reserves reshape Middle East dynamics
EXCERPT:
...the recent discovery that Israel’s offshore natural gas reserves are far larger than previously thought has the potential to revolutionize the country’s economic fortunes. The find could save Israel tens of billions of dollars in energy imports from Egypt and other places, and see it positioned as a new natural gas source for Europe, one of the world’s largest LNG markets.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, recoverable natural gas in the Levant Basin located in Israeli and Cypriot waters of the eastern Mediterranean Sea, amounts to a massive 18.9 trillion cubic feet.

But is Is rael, so that’s close enough.
Oil is often figurative in the bible, but I would aver that the creation is often strewn with divine puns.
There is a God who provides and the creation is rife with evidence. But there is also a devil that fights God. Being too careless can open the door to that devil.
Yet another reason for Israel not to give away any more of her tiny little country.
And hovering darkly over it all is Turkey, which also wants a slice of the pie.
At some in the not too distant future I think Israel will find a lot more oil and gas and that many other nations may gather against Israel, in part, to try and liberate these resources.
God will bless you just for blessing a people He has made to be an evidence of His love and provision.
A people that sometimes behaved as profligately as is seen in the bible accounts would have blown itself asunder long ago. But God the Shepherd was constantly hemming them in. Sometimes the story seemed to be nothing but cruelty to them, and yet they survived because God kept their determination alive. We may have seen pity parties, but not disunity.
It would be a fitting sign if the Lord chose to grant Israel resources that would put all Araby to shame.
Oh Yea,it's real.
And this is where I bet America will suddenly remember... hey! we supported those guys! let’s not waste that investment!
If America had regained a gospel consciousness by then, it would make for a beautiful subplot in the story.
Golda Meir: “Let me tell you something that we Israelis have against Moses. He took us 40 years through the desert in order to bring us to the one spot in the Middle East that has no oil!”
Looks like the natural gas fields could get Moses off the hook.
I don’t know why it wouldn’t be. There are scads of gas and oil reserves in the earth that nobody has even touched because they are in places considered unlikely. Who is going to drill millions of dry wells to look for one gusher? But if the Lord provides efficient ways to identify the presence of these reserves, then the impractical becomes practical.
Well folks, I say God has blessed Israel. For God’s own sake. And God will bless Israel again.
Now I want to share something with you that may sound wacky.
For a while I was working on contract with Hewlett Packard in the city where I have been, Nashville TN. But things went wrong and I lost the contract.
But before I left Hewlett Packard, in the boredom of not having any actual assigned work on this job, I came up with an idea in discussion with one of my remotely located co-workers, and I submitted it to Hewlett-Packard’s patent department.
It was about a method to use a means that the Lord has provided (I don’t want to be any more specific, because I don’t know if my saga with Hewlett Packard is over for good) to perform geological exploration.
If Israel could use this... they might be able to fairly easily locate that gas. And oil too, if it’s there. And minerals.
Call me crazy as you want, but please pray for me. I’ve fallen on hard times again and would only be a few weeks from living under a bridge in Nashville, from what I thought was a lead pipe cinch of a job.
Yet in the end, those who oppose Israel will fail. The Lord see to that.
And the inverse too. Those who support Israel will succeed.

Yes it is. Not only is there oil off Israel’s shore. There’s new finds off of Turkey and Greece in the Aegean and on around into the Adriatic. This could be an opportunity to devise a “Southern Strategy” for Europe to counter Russia’s use of their oil and gas to blackmail Europe. We shall see.....
