Meanwhile, back here in the United States, the government is busy expanding the welfare state and cutting defense to pay for it.

I don’t understand. There can be no storming or invasion if no shots are fired. It’s just undocumented immigrants crossing into the legal jurisdiction of another country. Those poor Russians should be given government assistance and a crack at the jobs Ukrainians won’t do.
