It’s not just the computer, you have to control and check their phones as well.

That's the rule in this house until any and all "dependents" are financially independent. Random email and phone checks as well.

they do schoolwork on the computer.

all social media and social interactions are done on their smartphones.

When our daughter was a teenager, we had her user IDs and passwords and reserved the right to monitor all computer usage. mrs riverdawg is a computer nerd, so she also knew and could defeat any attempts to circumvent the house rules.

Easier said than done, my friend. I have three teenagers at home, and although my wife and I keep pretty close tabs on what they do online, you can't fully protect them from themselves.

They're kids. They're going to make mistakes. It's our job as parents to be there to catch them when they fall, and to help them understand how and why they did.
