DETROIT (WJBK) -
Thursday afternoon a Detroit homeowner fatally shot an intruder. A second intruder was also at the scene but ran away and is still being sought by police.
Police say the homeowner heard glass break around 12:30 p.m., ran to the back of his house and saw a person climbing in the window, so he grabbed his gun and fired.
Police say the 17-year-old suspect then collapsed on the driveway, appearing to have died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The other suspect is in his 20s.
Police continue to question the homeowner about the incident, and for a description of the other suspect. They say the homeowner is shaken up.
"It's a message to the criminals - stop coming in to people's homes unannounced and uninvited. Crime no longer pays in the city of Detroit," says Dep. Chief Rodney Johnson of the Detroit Police Department.
The home is on Penrod Street, near Tireman Avenue and the Southfield Freeway on the city's west side. Neighbors tell FOX 2's Taryn Asher the area has gone bad, and just in the past two weeks five Detroit homeowners have caught intruders attempting to rob the houses.
Center mass, now that is gun control.
Now that’s what I call GUN CONTROL!
Crime prevention Detroit style.
Confiscate criminals, not guns.
” They say the homeowner is shaken up.”
Yup. I’d be shook up too when I want both perps as chalk lines instead of 1.
The best part is that the police are actively and openly encouraging it.
Is he suggesting that they ring the doorbell first?
Lol!
It’s been quite some time since there’s been a twofer. More range time suggested.
Good shooting. Both of the bastards would have been better shooting.
This is not too far from where I grew up. My sisters and I could have ridden our bicycles through this neighborhood without any concerns for our safety - 45 years ago. I’m getting old.
Ponton: He was just found dead in a training facility locker room. Shot in the head.
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: Was it fatal?
Ponton: Yes.
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: How fatal?
Ponton: Um, completely.
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: I want to talk to him now!
A few more years of “Bronsonizing” and Detroit might be safe again.
Seems to me that exactly the opposite is happening. Detroit has been Lord of the flies for years. Now the victims are fighting back.
I scrolled down looking for this ridiculous, but apparently obligatory, comment.
Based on what little is in the details, I suspect the other perp was outside the house waiting for his turn to enter through the broken window when his buddy's chest exploded with a bang. My money is the home owner never got a shot at perp #2.
My father-in-law (Ex-LEO Detective) makes the joke about the most determined suicide he ever saw. A known gang leader and drug dealer with a rap sheet longer than Santa’s naughty list was found dead in his house with 3 gun shot wounds to his head, a revolver in his hand and a suicide note pinned to his shirt that said, “I did it.”
The autopsy and coroner concluded that the suicide attempt was successful and were impressed with the shot grouping.
“Seems to me that exactly the opposite is happening. Detroit has been Lord of the flies for years. Now the victims are fighting back.”
And my guess is that now that Chicago can’t keep people from having guns for defensive purposes, that you will begin reading stories like this coming from that $hit hole city. I believe that the Black residents of Chicago will have the same resolve as their counterparts in Detroit. The only difference my be the response of the CPD because of their lack of real leadership.
