John Boehner on amnesty: 'I want to get it done'
Breitbart ^ | Mar 4, 2014 | Tony Lee

Posted on 03/04/2014 5:40:05 PM PST by bkopto

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said that he wants to get amnesty legislation done this year even as he insisted that the immigration reform he and President Barack Obama discussed in their White House meeting was not "amnesty."

Boehner recently said that he and Obama agreed the most on immigration during their recent one-on-one meeting and both want legislation this year, which amnesty advocates believe may be the last chance to pass significant immigration reform. Obama said he would not sign a bill that does not have a pathway to citizenship in it or that creates two classes of people in the United States. “He wants to get it done. I want to get it done,” Boehner told Cincinnati.com on Monday. “But he’s going to have to help us in this process.”

After the House GOP leadership released its immigration principles document, those like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) blasted it as amnesty, halting any momentum it may have had. GOP leaders in both chambers then said that they would not go forward with immigration reform until President Barack Obama convinced them that he could be trusted to enforce any new laws. Boehner's comments may give more credence to the belief that that was just a head fake to secure the potential votes of Republicans on the fence.

Boehner also said that providing illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship, which the Congressional Budget Office determined would lower the wages of American workers, is not amnesty.

“Some want to call it amnesty,” Boehner said. “I reject that premise... If you come in and plead guilty and pay a fine, that’s not amnesty.”

Now that’s the kind of thing that would be said by a really experienced republican whore.

“If you come in and plead guilty and pay a fine, that’s not amnesty.” - boehner

1. amnesty is *any* forgiveness for a border law violation that allows an illegal non-citizen to stay in the US without voluntary or involuntary deportation, and return via the normal line for lawful immigration. period.

2. they won’t “come in” in the first place, boehner. more will come over the border as they will realize that #1 implies that the US will really enforce border security (i.e., that the US will then sit and wait for illegals to “come in.”)

so i reject your “premise” boehner.

typo:

leftout the word “not” in #2. as #1 implies that the US will *not* really enforce border security.

The first thing obama would do, if an amnesty bill requiring a payment of a fine were to pass, would be to issue an executive order waiving the fine after a Just-us Dept finding that the fine would have a disparate impact on minorities.

From the article. Doesn't sound like a back-stabber to me.

I did not even think about that, but you are probably right. Thinking of that for a moment, I wonder why the Obungler doesn't just issue an executive order, giving them amnesty now? I don't want him to do it, I just wonder why he hasn't?

Its obvious. He wants the GOP to do it so he has someone to easily blame. And since they ARE that stupid and willing to be the fall guys, he’d be smart to blame them. Win/Win for liberalism. They get votes and the GOP is further hated by the public.

Yep, let’s let millions of people from some other country come in here and steal jobs. After all, every American who wants a job has a job, right? We have record low unemployment, right? You can’t find any Americans to take the jobs and we need to have millions of people who will be eligible for free stuff because we don’t have enough of that in this country.

Illegals were good enough for Mitt Romney to have working at his house. Not sure why people are shocked that the party he ran to lead wouldn’t be equally welcoming.

How much money did Obama offer Boehner at their White House meeting last week?

No money. He just offered to withhold the pictures.

Boehner only has 20 Republican supporters and 12 Democrats who oppose.

If Boehner really wanted to pass it soon, he wouldnt be operating this way.

I think he wants to show La Raza and the Chamber of Commerce he tried by his party is full of nativists.

2006 Boehner:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/11/AR2006021100842.html

But he also stood by his positions, especially on a tough illegal immigration bill that passed in December with overwhelming Republican support over Boehner’s opposition.

For the bill’s authors, the measure is central to choking off illegal immigrants’ employment opportunities. To business groups and Boehner, it is unworkable.
