When Barack Obama was running for President, many of us had doubts about his commitment to Israel. Even though he claimed to support them with no reservations, we were not so sure of his real intentions. This is what he said when he was bidding for the White House, claiming Israel's security was non-negotiable and sacrosanct. He has repeatedly reiterated that statement throughout his first term and into his second. Again, many of us wondered if his actions would ever match his rhetoric. My friends, that day has finally came, but not in the way American Jews or their fellow Jews in Israel would have hoped. This is what he told Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday in an interview with Bloomberg. Thanks to Gateway Pundit for the tip.
The Times of Israel - Israel can expect to face international isolation and possible sanctions from countries and companies across the world if Benjamin Netanyahu fails to endorse a framework agreement with the Palestinians, US President Barack Obama cautioned on Sunday ahead of a meeting with the Israeli prime minister.Personally, I would have liked to heard Netanyahu's reaction when he heard what President Obama had to say. I suspect, given the Israeli Prime Minister's attitude of taking care of Israel first, it wasn't something Obama would appreciate. As it is with Obama's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he is out of his league with Benjamin Netanyahu. Given his past actions, I can't see either man taking the President seriously at all.In an interview with Bloomberg, Obama stressed that time was running out for Israel to achieve a peace deal, and added that he believed Netanyahu had the capacity to rally Israels citizens behind an agreement
The president went on to condemn in no uncertain terms Israels settlement activities in the West Bank, and said that though his allegiance to the Jewish state was permanent, building settlements across the Green Line was counterproductive and would make it extremely difficult for the US to defend Israel from painful repercussions in the international community.
If you see no peace deal and continued aggressive settlement construction and we have seen more aggressive settlement construction over the last couple years than weve seen in a very long time if Palestinians come to believe that the possibility of a contiguous sovereign Palestinian state is no longer within reach, then our ability to manage the international fallout is going to be limited, Obama said.
Does President Obama really think he can load the negotiations in favor of his peace plan, before they even begin? If there is one thing I have learned from watching Benjamin Netanyahu and his leadership of Israel, it is two things. First, he loves his country. I suspect his love for Israel is far greater than the love our current President has for America. Second, he does not bluff, especially when it comes to Israel's security.
So, we know now how President Obama really feels about Israel. He has no intention of backing them up, should push come to shove with the international community. He will roll over like a whipped puppy and Israel will be left on their own. Is anyone who has paid attention in the last five years really surprised at this announcement? I know I'm not.
You are getting your wish. The US is weak and powerless in the world, and we sit on our duffs while events spin out of control on the international stage. We will not escape the coming brushfire that is now lit. It will affect our markets, our energy prices, our dollar! and our economy. Perhaps even more.
Soon, Obamerica will not be able to defend itself.
And they both served in the army. This counts for growing up a man.
Yes. I hate even seeing images of him. The thought that this is the “leader” of any country is ludicrous, but ours? It’s an obscenity.
“We got the world through the Cold War. We don’t owe anybody a thing.”
Until the next cold war, which just began. Staying out of alliances and foreign entanglements may work in the short run, but seldom in the long run, hence WWI and WWII, the Korean War, Desert Storm, Iraq 2, Afghanistan. You don’t take care of business in the short term, you’ll just have to take care of business in the long term. Which usually means a war. Iran will be the next example of just that. Obama is doing nothing now, and is preventing Israel from taking care of business. Thus, in the long term (and it’s not going to be very long) Iran will have nuclear weapons and the world will rue the day. Pennywise and pound foolish.
“They have something in common: theyre both men.”
Even that is subject to debate. See picture of Obama throwing a baseball. At best he is a metrosexual.
"They" refers to Putin and Bibi. :)
“They” refers to Putin and Bibi. :)”
Right you are. Read it wrong. Need to put my specs on. Obama is still a metrosexual at best though. Ugh, he makes my skin crawl.
I hear you. He makes me nauseous.
We have no treaties obligating us to defend Israel, nor should we. President Eisenhower did informally obligate the US to maintain Israel’s access to the Red Sea in return for returning the Sinai to Egypt. But when the time came to meet that obligation early in 1967, LBJ blinked, and war came a few months later. We do have a treaty obligation to defend the borders of the Ukraine, we won’t, imo making this a rather stupid time for Obama to be bringing this up. I doubt anyone trusts America under Obama.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Defending Israel falls to Israel. We aren't obligated, and wouldn't if we were. A stupid thing for Obama to bring up, he's not going to intimidate Bibi any more than Putin. Or most any other world leader. Related threads
Obama: US won't be able to defend Israel if peace talks fail
I wonder where he thinks he is going to be safe from America’s angry reprisals after he leaves or is forced to leave the Pretendancy.
The only people they are willing to go to war to defend are their Muslim Brotherhood buddies. They'll do that at every opportunity.
They look like they’re having a contest of who can hold their breath longer.
Kerry tells Israel “It’s not me, it’s YOU...” Doofus!

Gosharooti! I forgot to ask that he defend us. Somehow, the thought just never crossed my mind. So now he won’t defend us? What a relief.
If you see no peace deal and continued aggressive settlement construction...then our ability to manage the international fallout is going to be limited, Obama said.
Ahmed! You’re fired! We can’t let you feed your family by working at our construction site. That’s endangering piece and isolating us internationally. Go get another job.
