Last month's revolution in Ukraine saw thousands of students, workers and families take to the streets to demand political reform.
But amongst the crowds of ordinary citizens were a small number of far-right groups, who were often responsible for the most organised and violent protests.

I sort of agree, at least as far as Crimea is concerned. It was never really part of Ukraine proper anyhow was it? Was sort of autonomous republic.
With the other southers and eastern provinces it gets a lot more hairy, and a breakup could set an awful presedence, which is why the baltic NATO members invoked article 4.
The Black Russians (Marxists) were worse than the Bolsheviks. The didn’t win.
And if the Russians threaten Western Ukraine, NATO won’t be able to hold back the Poles...It was their former territory.
For the record, I think the “crisis” is over now anyhow. Crimea is Russia, and that will be that.
Time will tell I suppose.
Once China tries to conquer Taiwan, I guess you will have no problem with that If only it turns out that one of minor parties supporting Taiwan's government is anti-semitic or pro-homo, right ?
I think the next flashpoint will be Donetsk.
A Cautionary Tale...Remember that Hindenburg appointed Hitler, thinking he could be controlled and would just go away....He didn’t.
Yup.
BS.
Yanuk was elected promising that he would trade with Europe and not Russian. Then he broke his promise.
Then 75% of the parliament impeached him.
LOL. That how much support there is.
It may be a delusion that if you just make separate countries (Russian minority in one, more predominantly Ukrainian in another), things will be better.
I am not so sure, for several reasons. First, there will assuredly be no agreement on the division: there will be a border problem. Second, the people will not be separated perfectly: many probably do not wish to move, just to be in a pure country. Some are intermarried, and have jobs and friends, and property which they would not like to abandon.
But finally, a separation means giving up on learning to live together in a civilized manner. If you can’t even live with your neighbors within one country, how is it possible that you will not in a short time be waging war on those same people who are now in another country?
Look, the Russians under Putin can’t keep from invading their neighbors. They are more of a threat to Ukrainians than are the Russians living in eastern Ukraine. These people have to learn to live together.
It may sound impossible to expect slightly different people to be nice to each other within the same country, but one must start somewhere. And a rump Ukraine is not as viable as one with the geographic variety found within its present borders.
Ukraine is much poorer than it should be. It has land and climate perfect for agriculture, and should be like several Iowas. Unfortunately, Stalin did his best to exterminate the best farmers in his collectivization drive. Then came WWII. Then communism for yet another 45 years or so. Is it any wonder that their political system is a mess? They need some peace, and they need outside connections to the West, and they need freedom from Russia.
And Russia needs to learn to live peacefully with its neighbors. They have never learned this lesson. There is no country on the borders of Russia which has not been invaded by them at some time in the last century. And they border on quite a few countries. Even if they had a border with Switzerland, they would probably be invading the Swiss.
Worked for the Czechs and Slovaks.
I’m aware of that but still any sane German leader would have been trying to get Hitler and SA on his side had there been red hordes (or any other hordes) getting ready to attack Germany.
So what you are saying is they need the NAZIs..
“Theyre definitely real, theyre a powerful minority in the anti-Yanukovych campaignId say the neo-fascsists from Svoboda and Pravy Sektor are probably the vanguard of the movement, the ones who pushed it harder than anyone”
https://tendancecoatesy.wordpress.com/2014/02/25/ukraine-everything-you-know-may-be-wrong/
But never fear..they will dump the Nazis when they dont need them.
You dont know that they will want to or that they will BE ABLE TO DUMP THEM
“As University of Ottawa political scientist Ivan Katchanovski writes: The far right in Ukraine has now achieved the level of representation and influence that is unparalleled in Europe”
I dont believe Russian Jews are going to be comfortable with a Neo Nazi as the Top Prosecutor.
Neo-Cons have some very strange bed fellows. Now they think Neo-Nazi’s can be utilized as foot soldiers. Not much of a step down from utilizing Al Qeada and the Muslim Brotherhood. If this was Germany, the Nazi’s would be arrested.
OK...
It is Le Pen/UKIP/Wilders kind of party, not NSDAP 2.0 trying to reopen Auschwitz.
“Not much of a step down from utilizing Al Qeada and the Muslim Brotherhood.”
So supporting mujahedins fighting against Soviets was a bad idea ?
Read the article. svoboda is Putins own in house “ radical opposition”.
The VAST majority of Ukrainians want democracy, and an end to oligarchs like Yanukovych.
I suspect little concerning the Ukrainian situation is the way it may appear.
History shows that to have been a horrible idea as some of the CIA trained and armed Islamic radical members would later form Al Qeada and attack the US on 911. And the US has just learned the hard way that Afghanistan is not worth fighting over. You either have morals and principals or you don't. Would have been strategically better to let the Soviet bear bleed for 2 to 3 decades trying to control that wasteland.
Rather few of them really and that's mainly due to redistribution of aid and recruitment being largely delegated to Pakistani secret services. Massud, the most famous anti-Soviet commander and later a leader of Northern Allliance, was killed by Al Qeada two days before 9/11. Mujahedins contributed greatly to the fall of the Soviet Union, overall supporting them was a very good idea.
“You either have morals and principals or you don't.”
So having morals mean supporting Putin acting like Hitler in 38 over Ukrainians because a small minority of them don't like Jews ? You are falling for Russian propaganda too easily. I guess you would have supported Hitler's take over of Suddetenland, some of his arguments sounded rational back then too and Czech weren't all that perfect.
Ukraine right now is an absolutely critical issue. We are several steps away from WW3. Some anti-semitic clowns are 3rd rate problem at the moment.
