On This Week With George Stephanopoulos Sunday morning, the titular host pressed Secretary of State John Kerry for specifics as to the United States’ planned responses to Russia’s invasion of the Crimean peninsula, and whether President Barack Obama had the ability to execute repercussions against Russia. “All those violations,” Stephanopoulos said, “what’s the penalty for what Russia’s already done?”
“The United States is currently considering all options,” Kerry said. “This really puts into question Russia’s role in the world…They are inviting the possibility of very serious repercussions, on trade, on investment, on asset freeze, on visa bans, on the potential of actions by the global community.”
Kerry called upon Congress to pass economic aid for Ukraine, and Stephanopoulos asked if the US was considering economic sanctions against Russia, in addition to Ukrainian aid. “It may well come that we will have to engage in that kind of activity,” Kerry said.
Kerry added that Russia was jeopardizing its membership in the G8 and G20. “You cannot behave this way in the 21st Century, and sit around the table with the normal entities and pretend that life is as usual,” he said. “But we believe that there is an alternative. We call on Russia to engage with the government of Ukraine. We are prepared to work very closely with Russia in order to address the very legitimate concerns that exist.”
“Do you have any indication at all that President Putin is taking heed of what President Obama is saying?” Stephanopoulos asked, in reference to the fruitless phone call yesterday between Obama and Putin.
“Well, they just had the conservation yesterday,” Kerry said. “We’re going to continue to engage diplomatically. This is a time for diplomacy, in order to steer this away from an increase of tension and the level of the crisis.”

I think Obama WANTS Putin to do this. I think that’s what he meant by being “more flexible” after the election. I don’t think he gives a RATS ASS about ANYTHING other than America been WEAKENED......oh and GOLF and VACATIONING with his friends!!

Stop it! Stop it! The billions or trillions of US taxpayers’ dollars that have been given to other countries over the past few decades has NOT endeared those countries to ‘like’ the US. And, in most cases IMO, those countries despise the US.
If Congress wants to help reduce the deficit/debt, they should begin by severely cutting funds given as foreign aid and pass legislation requiring Congressional approval before any is given. ....Other countries don’t respect the US anymore, but love the liberals who give them money.
Boy Putin is in trouble now, mac daddy just received a carton of red pens and he is willing to use the entire carton drawing red lines for months to show how angry he really really is and that Putin had better listen.
So you think that Kerry and his boss want countries to like us?
Do you suppose he decided now is the time after his own NSA learned some things about how bad things really are in America? I have given up on our dumbed-down press. They are either inept, corrupt or drugged-up. Even the comediennes are protecting the unknown consequences to what amounts to a revolution without batting an eye. Honest historians will have a lot to say about our time, that is, if the world lasts.

Not really, no. I have been flamed and insulted by more than one person here for criticizing Putin. He’s the cat’s pajamas to a few folks around here, and I’m apparently (among other things) a liberal spy or something for pointing out his failings, and clinging to the somehow absurd notion that Putin is not our buddy just because he does a couple things that appeal to us (standing up to gay activists, etc.).
Obama is nothing but a mouse that is huffing helium.
Hopefully, these abject displays of weakness will ensure that the communist Democrats wander around in the wilderness for the next 20 years.

Which is exactly why the Olympics were awarded to China and Russia - they shining record of the way they treat their citizens and lie to the world.
Notice that every one of those "dire consequences" is economic. They think the world only cares about getting American taxpayer money. They won't dare consider anything other than words or money or symbolism, while Putin plays Risk and gobbles up more valuable territory... in much the same way that Germany gobbled up former provinces and ethnically German territory before slamming Poland and taking the mask off.
