Russia Ups the Ante in Crimea by Sending in the ‘Night Wolves’
Time ^ | February 28, 2014 | Simon Shuster

On Friday afternoon, the regular flight from Moscow touched down in the Crimean capital of Simferopol, in the south of Ukraine, carrying the leader of a Russian motorcycle gang known as the Night Wolves. Alexander Zaldostanov, an old friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was wearing his usual get-up – a flaming wolf’s head stenciled onto his black leather vest – but for once he was not the most intimidating figure on the scene. Since the morning, dozens of masked troops had been sauntering around Crimea’s main airport, armed to the teeth but refusing to identify themselves. In some ways, they seemed to have the same goal as Zaldostanov, who goes by the nickname The Surgeon. They were sending a signal to the revolutionary government in Ukraine that it was no longer in charge on this peninsula.

Who exactly was in charge remained a mystery throughout the day, and a source of international alarm, as the United Nations Security Council prepared to convene an emergency meeting to discuss the tensions in Crimea. That morning, the new Crimean Parliament convened, still occupied by the masked and heavily armed men who had seized the building before dawn the previous day. Those men, also brandishing assault rifles, had at least identified themselves: They said they were the self-defense forces of the ethnic Russian majority in the Crimea. Under their watch on Friday, the parliament voted in a new Crimean government, one that was stacked to the hilt with pro-Russian hardliners intent on breaking their region away from Ukraine. But they, too, were not in charge.

The troops in green uniforms were in charge, whoever they were. By Friday evening, they had set up patrols around the Crimean capital. They put up checkpoints on the roads leading to the Russian military base, the home...

Meanwhile, on the 16th hole, Obama carefully prepares for a six inch putt to save a triple bogey.

Not to worry. The Homosexual-in-Chief has the situation under control.

Not to worry.

I’m sure he’s forgotten all of Obeyme’s snarky little insults...and sending a passel of flaming homos to represent us in the Olympics.

Maybe so, but his handlers are watching Putin's actions and taking notes.

Which means what, exactly?

I see, Simon Shuster and Slime magazine have a problem with dozens of armed masked men, but not with hundreds of armed masked men if they are shooting, throwing firebombs and baseball sized stones at unarmed police, burning buildings and cars, refusing to Identify themselves.

The ability to quell disorder, to cow a rebellious mob into meek submissive obedience with a minimum of bloodshed and publicity - this is a useful skill.
Violence is expensive and bad for business, much better when the threat of violence gets the same result.

Putin seems to be good at this - I bet many Obamabots are envious.

Controlling the Crimean Peninsula is key to controlling water transportation into all of Eastern Europe and beyond. For example, the Dnieper (which goes through Kiev) is navigable all the way to the Baltic. That is why the British fought so hard for it.

Our problem is that most Americans couldn’t find most countries on a map.
They have no clue how diplomacy works. It was the strength of our country that kept us free and prosperous. No one would ever consider making us their enemy. Today, everyone knows that our leaders are weak, our population cares more about Government handouts and our morals have declined to rival Sodom and Gomorrah. Americans have no idea what it means to try to live in bad times where they would have to stand in line to be fed soup and bread.
Russia is expanding all over the world, close to our mainland. All it will take is China seeing an opportunity to join the other forces. We would be up the creek without a paddle. Or should I say with our dismantling of our military, without a defense? I have never seen a situation where our allies don’t trust us any more and our enemies forge alliances against us.
A sad situation formed by a community agitator.
