ROCKUMENTARY: MARCH 1, 1965

#1 – Gary Lewis & the Playboys: “This Diamond Ring”

Snuff Garrett had produced Bobby Vee and others, and Gary Lewis’ mother brought him to Garrett’s attention. Gary couldn’t drum very well, no matter how much Buddy Rich taught him, and his voice was too thin, but Garrett brought in the professionals and used over-dubbing to make him sound good. His career lasted barely two years.
