South Texas Senate hopeful slammed for racial slur (Cornyn slams Mapp for Wetbacks comments)

A Republican hopeful for the U.S. Senate who used a racial slur to describe undocumented immigrants has defended the language as “normal” in South Texas.

Chris Mapp, a Port O'Connor businessman, stood by his comments that “wetbacks” should be shot by ranchers and that President Barack Obama is a “socialist son of a bitch” — remarks that have created a national stir among both parties.

“That kind of rhetoric is discouraging from anybody,” U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said during a visit to a San Antonio charter school Friday. “I recognize this is a free country but that's not the sort of way to gain people's confidence that you care about them and you want to represent their concerns in the halls of Congress.”

Mapp, 53, first made the remarks at an editorial board meeting with the Dallas Morning News last week, but told the San Antonio Express-News on Friday that using the derogatory term for Mexican immigrants is as “normal as breathing air in South Texas.”

I specifically recall that TX’s beloved Ann Willis Richards, they may have unseated her but they named a bridge after her in Austin, used the term “weback” and no one said a word. I don’t rememvber if this was before or after she was governor. The old Richards people are lining up en masse for her heir, Wendy Davis.

Which poll is this?

It is a good tactic though because Cornyn has to come out and he pretty much butchers any comment he makes on immigration. He included restaurants in one of his opening remarks in the Senate.

Independent poll being conducted today and tomorrow. Registered voters. Internals are skewed towards Men 75%. Not sure what to make of it now, but Cornyn has lost 10 points since last week, but now back over 50%.

Cornyn 54%
Stockman 24%
Mapp 7%
Stovall 7%
Vega 4%
Cope 2%
Rasor 2%
Cleaver <1%

From personal experience when I was flying scallops from Mexico twice a week.

I had a customs license that listed all the tariffs and other than jewlery and furs the top duty charged by the US was 2%.

I also used to smuggle freon to a fishing fleet in Guymas and it was confiscated by the comandante, I called the fleet owner and he came down, paid a small bribe, loaded the 1,200# of freon and we went to dinner.

even food items in Baja that were canned in the US, like tomatoes, are 50% more expense than in California because of the 50% tariff.

Exactly, Kitten. All it would take to change the minds of these NIMBY walk-softly PC’ers is to dump one truckload of human feces and trash on their front yard EACH day, along with releasing say, 20 illegal aliens in their backyard each night to utterly destroy their property. Like the Texas border citizens see EACH day. They are not safe on their own property because of all this illegal traffic. Shoot em on sight!

“wetback” is a generic term

Señor,
Please, for your own safety, do not use that explanation on Saturday night in El Paso ... or Juarez.

As one getleman to another, just as I would not call our faux-POTUS a "Gay, Marxist Son-of-a-Bitch," I do not want you to refer to the hordes of brown-butted border bounders who pour into our land illegally, as "Wetbacks."

Think of the children. The little bastards liable to get the wrong idea.

...you want to represent their concerns in the halls of Congress.

He was elected to represent U.S citizens, NOT illegal aliens!

He must be confused.

...stay on the offensive no matter what.

Sounds like good advice to me. Conservatives get nowhere with their polite, civil style of debate. It's time to shout out, "We love our country and we won't allow you to tear it down." They must become freedom fighters, not mealy-mouthed talkers.

Ban Obama-types from our White House and bring back our beloved America.

Amazing how a statement that describes a certain class of criminals is automatically attributed to a whole race of people by the race-baiters.

Thanks. This is a Texas issue for Texans to decide, anyway.

Those who have no knowledge of what we face and how we feel have no room to criticize Mapp or anyone else.

You won’t find any argument from me about the use of the term “wetback,” but my point is that term, while commonly used for decades, feeds the propaganda “media” who would love nothing more than to turn as many GOP candidates into Richard Mourdock or Todd Akin. Why give the darkside a free campaign commercial?

Good debating point, but you cede the argument by using the Dard Side's rules when you do that. THEY are the ones that say this is bad. It is not, it is the way things are, but they twist the words around to their advantage every time. I am really tired of this nonsense. They limit the use of our toolbox to a few tools that THEY like... to hell with that, time to use the pliers. Dare I say that, is pliers on the bad word list? See what I mean?

Certainly that’s the way it should be, but electoral politics present a reality we don’t often like. Whether this sounds like playing into the dems’ hands or not, the fact is comments like these prove costly at election te.@

An illusion is a fact only if you believe in it.

Illusion? We’re the political fates of Sharron Angle, Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock “illusions?”

Look, we are not having the same conversation. Let me put it to you more simply; What if you have a dog, and someone sees your dog and asks you how many legs does your dog have, if you count the dog’s tail as a leg? You respond by saying five, right, that is logical given the conditions you were given? You are totally right and totally wrong, a leg is a leg, the dog has the original four, as it always had and always will. Calling a tail a leg does not make it a leg.
That is what the Alinskiites routinely do and why we should not play their silly but dangerous game.

Well, you can toss out all the comparisons you want, but let me lay it out even more simply: if Mapp gets the nomination, bet that the comment will... not may, but will be used against him. We’ll see how he defends that statement in a heavily hispanic state such as Texas.... Alinsky or no Alinsky.

Sorry, this is a little bit off topic but does anyone know what has happened to Glenn Spencer of American Patrol? His website says that he was hospitalized in July.
