U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, facing a field of GOP primary candidates running at him mainly from the right, set the bar low for next Tuesdays election, telling Texas reporters that his main goal is to avoid a runoff.
My goal is to win the election without a runoff, and I think well achieve that goal, he said in a phone conference Wednesday. He added: I realize runoffs are a unique animal unto themselves, and my goal is to win without a runoff, and of course Ill enjoy every vote I get above that.
Cornyn reminded the press corps that hes had some experience with runoffs.

Mapp!
As a group, legal Hispanics are generally anti-illegal.
Polls reveal that they reject amnesty for illegals by a 2-to-1 margin (roughly 60-32).
And why not? Legal Hispanics are Americans first -- having jumped thru all the legal hoops or coming from families that have been here for generations. They don't want to see their citizenship cheapened any more than Anglos do.
Plus, they recognize that illegals are competitors for jobs.
A Texas businessman who is running for the U.S. Senate in the GOP primary is drawing fire for referring to people who cross the border illegally as wetbacks and, later, defending his use of the slur.
Chris Mapp, who is among several candidates challenging U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in the GOP primary on March 4, used the term during an editorial board meeting with the Dallas Morning News.
In explaining its endorsement of Cornyn in the primary, a Dallas Morning News editorial said: South Texas businessman Chris Mapp, 53, told this editorial board that ranchers should be allowed to shoot on sight anyone illegally crossing the border on to their land, referred to such people as wetbacks, and called the president a socialist son of a bitch.
Later, in an interview with the San Antonio Express-News, Mapp defended his use of the word and his characterization of undocumented immigrants.
He described the slur as normal for Texans.
Mapp said its use is as normal as breathing air in south Texas, according to the newspaper.
We can’t have illegal immigrants, drug cartels, human traffickers or terrorists coming across our border, he said. Our borders can either be sealed by choice or force, and so far choice hasn’t worked.

Cornyn 41%
Stockman 28%
Mapp 14%
Stovall 10%
Reasor 3%
Vega 3%
Cleaver/Cope 1%
Again, registered voters poll as of early afternoon. Big margin of error. For entertainment purposes only...
It’s my understanding that the turnout is unusually low and that low turnout will definitely not favor Cornyn. Our family all voted for Stovall. Prayers up that Cornyn won’t even make the runoff.
If the man had any honor he would resign if he couldn’t get more than 50% of the vote!
If/when Cornyn drops below 40%.. watching the GOPe panic will be almost as priceless as when the RATS, realizing what’s happening, and what’s next for them, panic.
F’n backstabbing RINO capitulator.
And the Stockman robocalls against Cornyn seem to be working.
I live in an odd place, in Travis Co., but Williamson Co. and mine do some crazy gerrymandering in very short distances.
Just to get to work (which would be 2 miles if there weren’t a lake between us) I cross county lines 4 times and city lines 5 times one-way.
Stovall has invested in Williamson Co, highly red, and nothing in Travis, fairly blue. Stockman has invested nothing in either.
People are moving Stovall signs onto the roadways that cris-cross the county lines, but no other campaign is doing this.
I don’t regret my vote for Stovall, hope he reaches higher office if Stockman is the runoff challenger (my initial guy).
I voted for Stovall, too. His future is bright.
What do you think about RAT OpChaos in this election?
For Mapp to soar from zero to third is quite the achievement.
For Stockman, who hasn’t campaigned AT ALL, or spent any money, to be dogging Cornyn is also quite the achievement.
I have not seen a single corn hole bumper sticker in Lago Vista. He did not get my vote after he voted to end the Ted Cruz filibuster end. I left a “single middle finger salute” message on his staffs’ answering machine.
Afternoon Update:
Independent poll being conducted today and tomorrow. Registered voters. Internals are skewed towards Men 75%. Not sure what to make of it now, but Cornyn has lost 10 points since last week, but now back over 50%.
Cornyn 54%
Stockman 24%
Mapp 7%
Stovall 7%
Vega 4%
Cope 2%
Rasor 2%
Cleaver <1%
This poll... consider it. Nobody knows who Stockman is (because he isn’t campaigning), but he’s the top challenger?
And as for being skewed towards men, men are less likely to rock the (incumbent) boat.
Thanks again for your research.
I wish there were exit polls available.
I voted for Stovall; but, if there is a runoff involving Stockman and Cornyn, Stockman will get my enthusiastic vote.
Stockman may have a few skeletons, but he did vote against Boehner for Speaker and has called for Obama’s impeachment.
Stockman may have some skeletons, but Cornyn is really sleazy. Texans will take a few skeletons over sleaze.
I went with Stovall over Stockman, although Ill be fine with either. Mainly made my choice because Stovall seemed to work a bit harder for the vote...

A bit harder??? A bit harder??? That’s the understatement of the year. Stockman has been such a sorry candidate, the Tea Party has turned on him. Check this out:
