Authorities say U.S. Navy Commander Alphonso Doss, a 44-year-old resident of Pensacola, Florida, has been found dead in what medical officials are ruling a homicide.

According to the Orange Park Police Department, Doss' body was discovered in a hotel room at the Astoria Hotel near Jacksonville, Florida on February 12. The following day, the Jacksonville Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy and determined Commander Doss was the victim of homicide.

With the investigation ongoing, the cause of death is not being released, police said.

“He also assisted in conducting annual review boards for suspected enemy combatants held at Guantanamo Bay beginning in 2006, the newspaper said. His team was charged with interviewing detainees and conducting boards to determine if they should be released. Mohammed was one of those detainees, the newspaper said. The Times-Union could not confirm that account.”

Divorce and financial problems are both top reasons for suicide. When the occur together it’s a double whammy.I wonder what evidence they have to suggest homicide rather than suicide? Perhaps he owed someone money...or picked the wrong person for female companionship.

Said he was a victim of homicide. He was going through a tough divorce, having financial problems and dealing with substance abuse. He was also involved with interrogating terrorist like Khalid Sheik Mohammud at Guantanamo. There was also something about him taking part in drug busting operations in the Caribbean. Who knows what part of his past contributed to his death, if it did contribute.
