Only 15% of Connecticut gun owners registered their military-style rifles with the state this year. 85% of assault weapon owners flouted the law.
Now, the Connecticut is sending letters to gun owners telling them to surrender, destroy or sell your assault weapons. Guns Saves Lives reported:
It looks like some gun owners in Connecticut who tried to register their assault weapons (thats the state of CTs actual term for these firearms), but missed the deadline are now getting letters instructing them to destroy or surrender their firearms.
According the letter, posted on several message boards and online media sources, residents who failed to register their firearms must now take the following action:
1. Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable. 2. Sell the assault weapon to a licensed gun dealer. 3. Remove the assault weapon from the state; or 4. You may make arrangements to relinquish the assault weapon to a police department or to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
Those all sound like super fun options. So far, it looks like only owners who tried to register their firearms, but missed the deadline are getting the letters.
Heres a copy of the letter:
Lt. Eric Cooke sounds like a first-class pr*ck.
Anyone, especially a cop, who calls a semi-automatic rifle an “assault weapon” is a jack-booted liberal thug.
They'll never get a judge to sign the search warrant absent recent, sworn affidavit that somebody personally saw the firearm in question.
It won't stop them from knocking on the door and asking though.
And it does inject felonious risk to any transport of the weapon.
Sounds like a good time to open a storage locker business in Pike County PA: about an hour’s drive west of CT on I-84.
What a remarkable change in Connecticut, in just a few short years.
When I was a kid, it was a solidly Republican state. We used to go to Hawks Nest Beach for family days. My cousins lived in Hartford, and we used to visit them all the time. There was no income tax.
Now, Bridgeport, Hartford, New London and New Haven (all 4 in one little state) are crime-ridden hellholes. All of them are ranked in the top 100 most dangerous cities, ranging from 26-51. Only Michigan has 4 in the top 51 (California has 3), but both of them are much bigger.
How did this happen so fast?
Unfortunately, I believe your response will be the norm (no offense intended). The powers that be know that most will not come to the defense of the guy they don't know, to the guy who they've only heard about on the news after his arrest.
Gunowners all talk a good game. I do too. I only hope I stand when the time comes.
And make no mistake...the time is coming.
My question, as well.
And it requires an answer...
If those won’t do PA is close enough. Heck the whole New England state area is smallish.
I read somewhere, heh, that these particular gun owners tried to comply but missed the deadline. They outed themselves.
Is it similar to a rape weapon, a robbery weapon or an arson weapon?
I predict widespread boating accidents.
oh...me...I smelled the popcorn and ran right over....
just tossing the Constitution right out the window. charges must be filed or this bs will stand
most people don’t know that the Chinese have the same rights as we do... minus the right to bear arms. without it, all the other rights are just for show
Of course all the owner has to do is say they lost the firearms in a boating accident or sold it in a private sale.
This info won't identify owners that bought the guns out of state or in a private sale.

“If they didnt register their guns how does the gov know who has them? Hmmm?”
If you bought it through a commercial source, or you bought ammunition with a credit card the meta-data collectors will flag you. Have you run your credit report? It gathers data from multiple sources and combines it. To identify myself a government computer program asked, “What make and model car did you own in 1977? It also asked, “What city did you live in in 1978?” (It gives you multiple choices. I actually had to guess as even I didn’t recall.
You’re probably looking at no-knock raids coming soon.
Memo To Lt. Eric Cooke: FU.
Molon labe!
That needs repeating over and over. When this happens in a few more States it is time to begin the civil war. Communists must be destroyed.
Dang! Hard way to learn that today's gov can't be trusted. If there is any upside there maybe it will make them more resolute about resisting and making changes to it.
