Preparing for war: Putin puts 150,000 troops on standby

Vladimir Putin mobilised more than 150,000 troops and an armada of ships yesterday for a drill to test the combat readiness of forces in western Russia as tensions over Ukraine continue to grow.

In addition to the soldiers – nearly twice the British Army’s manpower after planned cuts – 880 tanks, 210 aircraft and 80 warships will take part in the operation. The manoeuvres raised fears that the Russian president may be planning to send forces into Ukraine after the toppling of its Moscow-backed president Viktor Yanukovych.

No wonder the Russians tested British response times in the North Sea. Pretty soon Jamaica’s navy will start looking powerful.

Don’t know about that Doogle. I have to believe obama has given putin all our contingencies. Pentagon is full of spies at this point.

It is kinda weird to see another country preparing to go to war. This might be the first time where we are watching another country actually getting ready for battle. Normally we are the ones who are preparing to go to war. Russia is going into Ukraine….it feels weird seeing this and America not involved. I wonder if Russia felt the same way when we went into Iraq and Afghanistan like they are doing to Ukraine. Just a dang weird feeling. I feel like we should be doing something too (not going to Ukraine but preparing for something) but we are not. Just weird.

That sounds like an aggressive response on Obama’s part. Perhaps use a strongly worded memo.

Obama is beholden to Putin. They are on their own.

So, I am not alone in feeling uneasy or antsy in a way that cannot be easily defined.

Obama doesn't care about the Ukraine, Syria (or any other world hotspot), all he cares about is redistributing as much wealth as he can by any means possible to the democrat base before he leaves office. The bad news for Ukraine is that Putin is well aware of the fact that Obama doesn't care and will do nothing if he decides to invade.

It is like the beginning of world wars I and II, where we sat things out until the end. Frankly, I don't mind sitting things out until the end, if it means less of us will die. Maybe if China, Japan, Russia and the EU all destroyed each other again, we will have another American century while they rebuild.

Against the poorly-trained, divided, and poorly equipped Ukrainian Army, exactly how many “Pedestraians do they need?

You make a great point. There is something unspoken going on and that might be the feelings of all of us. Maybe this will be another “go in towards the end and finish” type of war.
