Fort Carson leaders have launched investigation into a "selfie" photo of a Fort Carson soldier who said she was hiding in her car to avoid saluting the flag that went viral Tuesday, drawing a storm of criticism.
Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey, of the posts's 43rd Sustainment Group posted the image to her Instagram account with a caption that read, "This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don't have to salute the 1700 flag, KEEP ALL YOUR 'THATS SO DISRESPECTFUL/HOWRUDE/ETC.' COMMENTS TO YOURSELF cuz, right now, (acronym for I don't give an obscenity)."
Fort Carson officials say soldiers caught not saluting at the 5 p.m. "retreat" ceremony for the lowering of the American ensign are subject to an "on the spot correction" - essentially a loud, one-sided discussion with a sergeant.
It's one of two events per day that require soldiers to stop what they're doing - even pull over and get out of their cars - to salute the flag in an act of tradition and military courtesy.

The military used to take lots of bums (”a year in jail or enlist in the Army”). Most all of them were shaped up by drill sergeants. The sergeants have been emasculated to the point that this is no longer possible. Too bad.
Yep, been there, done that, during arty survey school circa 1970 I tried to make it to the car with wife waiting at Sill, ran right into the CSM from the OCS next door.
After a day of beating on future butterbars, he was happy to rip my poor PFC ass, then and again the next day in his office. Did a week as his CQ runner for my haste. I was more careful not to get caught next time. LOL I can’t believe the rest of the vitriolic comments about this, maybe because I was drafted.

I worked with a former Marine named Turnisia. One of the best people I ever hired. So it’s not the name, but the character, that matters.
Running from colors is generally an E1-E3 talent. NCOs know how to look at a clock and stay indoors. It’s only the shitbirds who can’t render a salute for a minute at attention.
On the other hand, I myself have been caught in dumb positions at evening colors and found myself saluting dimpsty dumpsters and PXs and empty parking lots. Also, there are E1-E3 jerks running the camp PA system who had fun putting a long pregnant pause between the end of colors and the bugle call for ‘All Clear’.
Soldier in question will probably get some nice NJP for her little stunt, but she’s not going to get drummed out of the Army or anything.
obama didn’t put his hand on his heart but in the video he clearly was singing the anthem. The others weren’t singing.
I despise obama, but he at least did that.
